I bought it in the end, pick it up in the New Year!
Superb! Great choice, I bought mine in the summer from Munich legends and I flippin love it!
When I get the chance to stamp on it in M mode it gives such a smile.

Hello all. Hoping you could help me. I'm new to all this but I've been talking to Bodie390 about his new purchase. Beautiful car and he's given me lots of good advice - thanks. I've also been looking at these for months now and wondering if anyone previously owned E61 M5 'YOK', currently for sale up at Sytner Leicester? Test driving it next week...however, still on original clutch at 48k... Thanks all

Good point - I suppose it's just the scare stories you hear. Its not a deal breaker for me as it could actually could give me some wiggle with the dealer.

I'm pretty sure that car was advertised privately on pistonheads 2/3 months ago for around 23k. Sytner did have it up at 31,950 originally so I'm not sure how much you'll be able to get off the price.

That's right - I saw it advertised privately on the Saturday for that, then Sytner bought it on the Monday and had it advertised up for £31k on the Tuesday!! Way too optimistic though. As someone else has posted, like to think they'd be appreciating that much, but fundamentally it's quite a niche market

sytner, don't they make you laugh. mine went into nottingham last week for the usual stuff, tail gate wiring even though they did it last year.plus i had the dsc dbc hill start assist etc. i told them i couldn't find my service book but it had always been serviced by them. they told me that it had an impeccable service history .
while i was their picking it up i thought i'd ask them for a trade in price, they had given her a good wash and valet, she was looking great.

so what did they offer me 14,500 , so why is mine worth 10k less than the one you have for sale ? i think i'll keep her for a while longer.

one thing that did have me thinking was when he said it was a dealer launch spec car with lots of extras, how can this be when its a 2008 car?

ps fault was a throttle actuator and a throttle something else but i forgot what that was.

Not really into Estate cars ....but I do have a real soft spot for these E61 M5 Tourings.

I had the great pleasure of having one of these as a courtesy cars for a couple of months back in 2008, when my M5 was rear ended.

Fun times and really loved the high revving nature of the V10.

Awesome indeed especially with the undercover nature of the touring !

Sytner are the only dealer I've seen opportunistically picking up E61 M5s - most are either taking them in px, or off loading to trade. One of the London dealers offloaded a nice but cosmetically scruffy 23k miler belonging to a Russian billionaire. I tried it - loved it - but it was way overpriced and sold pretty quickly surprisingly. Most dealers (bar Wilmslow with FLY), have had them on their books since Sept time, and even the indies are flipping them between them rather than actually selling them (I've seen the Monaco blue with 20" Hartage rims with about 3 different dealers- was it Phelix or Aeroesh or something who owned it previously?)

A long time waiting for someone to bring one to the states and it's never going to happen.

I guess I'll make my own!

Picked up a 535xi with 214k miles and a hydrolocked N54. Perfect candidate for the 25 cars worth of M5/M6 parts I have. wink

This is going to be an epic build project.

You certainly know your way around these cars so I imagine it won't be a massive problem for you.

Just a question; are the suspension components on regular E60 models interchangeable with the E60 M5?

When I worked in the trade, I used to sell loads of BMW aluminium suspension components and the multi link suspension set up on E60's and E60 M5's looks very similar if not the same. Is this the case or does the M5 have a completely different suspension set up?

Either way, looking forward to seeing the project on here! biggrin

The front suspensions are identical between the E60 and E61 with the exception of the struts. The part numbers are different and I would assume the valving and spring rates are different given the added weight of the Touring.

The rear suspension on the other hand is quite different. The rear axle cradle is different than the SMG E60, but oddly the same P/N as a 6MT E60 M5, so I already picked one of those up. That kind of leads into the decision of SMG vs. 6Mt or perhaps even DCT as I've been experimenting a bit and have an extra one. The rear dampers are different as the E61 is not a coilover but a damper with an air spring and compressor. The airspring and compressor are different part numbers from the E61 M5 to the non-M, I imagine stiffer. So, I sourced E61 M5 air springs from Sweden and looking into the dampers. Given the cost, I may opt to forgo the EDC OEM dampers and put KW V3 or similar on the car, hence the other thread. The rear wheel bearing carriers are different part numbers as well from the non-M to M5 E61 and I really can't get close up enough pictures to tell why.

If anyone is willing to take a ton(ne? :P) of pictures of their rear hub carriers, that might help.

Aside from that, it's fairly straightforward. Tedious and a lot of work, but not overly complex. Even the gas tanks have different part number, but I have 2 extras.

I thought as much, also shows you just what a sorted car the standard E60 and E61 models are that BMW still carried over the same suspension components over to the M5 models.

I started this thread a couple of years ago now. The car is still going really well but i made a mistake and sold it and then missed it so much i bought it back again! However, it's with a heavy heart that it needs to go now as i've purchased an F10 M5 so if anyone is looking for a mint E61 with full main dealer history from the same supplying dealer and all the common problems sorted please let me know before i give it a clean, get some photos done and advertise it properly. I've got every bill from new and its under BMW warranty at the moment meaning it's had an 'open cheque book' approach to any issues that have come up. These things are pretty much depreciation proof now.

Well, after almost 30k miles mine is now up for sale in the classifieds-it will be a sad day when it goes as i've loved it and each year there are less and less of them. The new owner will have a corker with my one!!

Hello Alistair
We've spoken recently about this. I'm looking forward to seeing the photographs
