Advans are nice n grippy but very soft rubber - they wont last very long with energetic driving. I have had them before on another of my cars and they were ace but lasted 8k.

My F10 has now done 47k miles. its a pre-LCI with an LCI grille. otherwise looks quite similar in spec, altough mine is singapore grey not estoril blue (lovely colour by the way)

I'm really enjoying my car and glad i pulled the trigger a day after Brexit - saved my a few extra k off the sales procie on the AUC website!

Good luck and enjoy!

Hopefully going to view a CP next week and would like to add extra years warranty into the deal.

Does anyone know how much it is in case dealership wants me to share the cost ? I heard someone saying that it only costs them around £500 so it would be helpful if they try to pull a fast one.

Great thread

Had my 63 plate car a week now and love it! Some new rubber and an ac refresh and it's like new too.

Quick question - do you guys run your cars on 95 or 98 Ron (vpower) fuel?

It should be run on 98 or 99 Ron only. The car makes its full power on that.

Has anyone compared the F10 M5 to the E63 of the same vintage. Seems the latter can be picked up for a bit less spec for spec, and arguably might be less impacted by depreciation point forward given new model is already out...

I test drove the e63TT.
frankly, I thought it was amazing. While not as balanced and tied down as the f10, it was very very impressive and very comfortable to be in...My issue is I live in a built up area and leave for work at 6:30 am. The e63 was SO LOUD that I decided I couldn't progress it. When I started it from cold with the drivers door open I said the sales man 'NOISY ISNT IT'. He said 'WHAT?' I thought this won't work?....
F10 is a quite a bit quieter on cold start..... it is amazing and I'm glad I bought it.

Regarding fuel - You can use regular unleaded or super. There is no requirement for super only. The car probably makes slightly better power with higher octane. The last time I filled up at a shell garage, the guy at the till told me I should have used Vpower, he went on to tell me I could be as much as 35BHP down by using regular. I explained to him that I only lived a few miles away and that I thought I could limp home with only circa 550BHP!

I wonder how many people would use 95 Ron, instead of 98 Ron, if it was the same price as 98 Ron ? smile

Car is tuned for 98 Ron. You can use as low as 95 Ron if the correct fuel is not available at the time of fuelling.

I once had to splash and dash a tenner of 95 in my e39. I felt guilty lol. I'd never dream of running an f10 on 95.

I wonder if those who do use standard do it through choice over not knowing? As such £70-90k car yet a few £ on a tank more ...

On my performance petrols I always used the higher octane - a few times I had no choice as light on fuel and he fuel station though it had higher octane for sale was out. I found he cars to offer lower mpg on he 95 Ron and also seemed dulled power (maybe placeabo )

I filled up with a 102 product last time I was in Germany and the difference in the M5 was definitely not a placebo!

Indeed, I've never understood why people do this?

What do F10 M5 owners think about the start up noise v the E63?

One thing I loved about the C5 RS6 was the frat start up noise

I always wonder about this. Just because I paid £alot for a car, why would I spend 10% odd more to fill it up for the sake of it? The MPG argument didn't stack up for me and regarding power loss, well perhaps it looses a few BHP, but the car's performance is so far beyond what is useable on the road it makes no difference at all. Perhaps if I was looking for an extra tenth on the track and I was sure I could extract the maximum out of the car then yes, but otherwise it always seemed pointless to me.

I do understand that lots of people want the best for their car and feel that it "deserves" the full fat stuff, which is their choice, but to use improved performance as a justification makes me laugh.

On the subject of higher than 98, I was asked one of the mechanics at the M development garage at the ring a year or so ago about the garage in town that sold 102 and he told me that there are no volume production cars he knew of that would gain any benefit from anything higher than 98. The 102 was nearly twice the cost of 98 and there was always a queue for it last time I was there. biggrin

It's just under £500 from memory. (£415 + VAT sticks in my head for some reason)

I can dig out my invoice if you really need to know exactly but the way to pitch it is "it'll cost me over £1000 and it's worth more to me than £1000 off the car...".

I think it sounds pretty good at cold idle even if it is fake news noise, shame it doesn't last very long.

I'm sort of torn about the noise it makes in general. Part of me wants it to be a bit louder (especially in the cabin) but I suppose it's meant to be subtle. A friend followed me down to Goodwood the other weekend and said it sounded good from behind, but you get almost none of that noise in the cabin.

I thought the synthetic noise would at least give you some more sound inside, even if it's quiet outside. rotate
