e92 m3...best car ever?
Discussion
I like the relative quiet of the E9x M3s V8...its still noisy enough to turn heads if you get on the throttle.
I tried the OEM exhaust mod (a mere £180) on my previous E92 M3 and it did sound excellent, but brilliant as it sounded it just started to wear thin after a while and I had it partially reversed. I think I might keep this one standard.
Easily the best car I've ever owned and tempted as I am to buy the new M4 I'm nervous that it won't be as good.

Was looking at the M4 Conv last summer with the intention of keeping for a year and then chopping in. My local dealer lent me their demo and I was a little underwhelmed. No sense of occasion, no noise to speak of, no real feedback ... however bizarrely I couldn't think of another car at that price bracket that I'd rather have. Maybe as a nice daily but not special enough as a toy. That same dealer told me last Friday that they've just taken an order for a M4 GTS. Very nice I expect but my head just wouldn't let me put that sort of money into a 4 series, no matter how values decrease/increase or how 'special' it is. test drove an m4 and was also pretty underwhemled and had no desire to shift to the newer model am enjoying the e92 as the 3rd car and least used in family says a lot about the car that have no wish to sell it.
With talk of these last NA m3s and 911s being potentially sought after in the future think good ones will hold value but, the turbos are not going to be around long maybe 2 gens max before we see hybrid and then sll electric replace. And with performance that will surpass just look at what tesla have already done..
So the na cars will not be that quick a family hot hatch e car in 10y will be 3.5 secs 0-60. This means then am pretty sure an e92 m3 will be worth more than a current m4 in 10y time.

Cant believe what people have said about the fuel range.
I wouldn't dare run one especially considering servicing costs but I guess its all relative to earnings etc. I have a friend who at 24/25 bought one and said to him I dont know how you dare run one. Anyway he sold it within probably 6 months for exactly that reason.
I do like that soundtrack, Ive driven an e39 M5 a few times and nursing that V8 with a manual gearbox was half the fun. The prospect of being able to rev the nuts off a n/a V8 that goes over 8krpm does now seem like a treat considering whats on offer in the current market.

Was wondering what car you have now ?, It's a Track or nothing car to me, sold mine within a year boring car.
Any proper performance car will loose your licence for you if your flat out in 3rd gear, Come to think of It most modern cars will be doing over 70 in 3rd if your flat out,
I would think most of us with performance cars enjoy the odd blast though the gears, Not driving flat out every were, Nice trip to the ring for that sort thing,

I had my first one for nearly 7 years and I don't think it was especially expensive on servicing, its only every two years. Fuel consumption at around 19mpg depending on use, is not so painful these days.Depreciation was £23k over 7 years which is harsh but its still a lot of performance for the money and I don't regret it for a moment.

I just got an E93 (sorry) and it’s amazing. Despite the lowered acceleration time due to stiffening weight the performance is stunning. I like that it pushes up through the gears in auto. If you want to have control then the M button is there. An amazing car. No point in needing anything more on our roads.
I’ve had a E92 M3 Comp pack, F31 335d touring and M4 Convertible in that order.
Was the M3 more special than the M4? Yes and no. The brakes in my opinion were terrible the engine was a peach and sounded great with the obligatory 2 pipe mod. As others have said if you want to really use it you only have 2 or 3 gears without being silly. I found the ride fine and the build quality was probably better than the F series cars.
Only real issue is that it isn’t actually that quick (335d wasn’t far off it when I owned both for a month) and it wouldn’t see which way the M4 went even with the added weight of the roof. The M4 is in some ways more fun to drive as it tries to kill you if you don’t treat it with respect I found the M3 more placid; I’m guessing due to the torque delivery.
So I’m my opinion not the greatest car ever at all. A great car in its own way yes but best car ever certainly not!
Pics of my 3 and 4. As you can see I like Silverstone II.

I found it the other way round. I found the M4 a little inert and boring (I find the steering lacks feel). It is massively quick but not that involving - the same as the performance diesels. The M3 was more involving. The M4 I drove was one of the early ones and I understand they've improved it Was the M3 more special than the M4? Yes and no.
