Nope, would be a second hand purchase. It's either one of these, a C6 RS6 or rebuild the engine on my E39
I bought one to give me something interesting to drive while I spanner on my perpetually broken improving e39.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I think if I were to get one I'd want a warranty, just in case, so that is off the table for now!
When I was in the market at the end of last year there was a huge selection of approved used cars available, the pricing was within 10% of private examples I found. I wanted a warranty too, so hit up the approved used route and got the included 1 year upped to 2 as part of the deal.

I've seen an M6 I like the look of which is a BMWAU so at least I'll get a 12-month warranty. 14 plate with 55k up for 27k which seems decent value its also just had disks and pads done which is a bonus.
That the one with about 3 mots in last 6 months?[/quote

Yea seems cheap but that is unusual
Yea I spoke to them Stratstone own the car and they’ve had it in stock for 300 days. Something fishy going on

That M6 At Stratstone has been for sale forever

Keeps disappearing (like it’s sold) then comes back (like its fallen through). Multiple MoTs back that up.

I’ve not seen it, but look at the pics. It looks a mess. The fact they haven’t bothered to update pics in 300 days, and it still has its badly Curbed wheels and missing badges suggests to me it is one to avoid.

I bought an AUC M6 in December and it’s amazing. That said some of them out there were truely awful!

Nerves wheels are not expensive to fix and a missing badge... easy enough to replace.

Get a 2 year AUC warranty and then part x it back to same dealer.

true - F10 might have been better...
That's the issue with used cars at this level, you just never know, if they're looked after then they aren't an issue but many people treat them badly.

Yea I know it has been repaired, they sent me a video. I take it the pictures were taken before it was prepped absolute madness they haven't taken new pictures mind.

Its just had new disks and pads all round and with a BMW AUC warranty, I don't think there's much to lose if the bodywork and paintwork is tidy. I wouldn't run one of this without a warranty anyway.

Sorry to hear and best wishes with it going forwards. I read your thread from start-to-finish, it really is a special car (when everything works). It sounds like you were very unlucky considering all the preventative maintenance you were carrying out on it

All the best and looking forward to future updates on it

If you buy a used BMW (M5) not via AUC and it didn’t have a prevailing BMW warranty on it, it is sub 60k Miles and has full BMWSH can you add the BMW warranty onto it?

Cheers! I was very unlucky, but it is what it is. I used the wrong guy, I didn't know he was the wrong guy at the time mind! I'll have a "Phoenix from the ashes" type readers rides post at some point again.

It is literally as simple as local dealership the service book - or I guess in the newer F10’s the service history is all on the office & likely within BMW service :drive

After seeing this thread, I decided to have a look on AT for used M5’s and was very surprised to see how cheap they are!!

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Would it be a good If I sold my car and got one of these with a 2 k emergency fund, or would the stupidity level be equivalent to selling bibles in ISIS territory

Jesus I didn't think they were that low yet.

An M5 is never going to be cheap to run but surely these don't have the biblical bork potential of the E60?

That is a bargain still not sure I’d be brave enough to run one without a warranty. Less than 60k it’s £85 with BMW which is worth it for peace of mind imo

Full comp mondial for £85 for a m5 ? Seems rather low. Best quote I've seen is £1500pa ish. £85pm is more like a regular f10 price.

Depends. Quite a few have been tuned so turbos are going to become an issue at some point. Injectors are known to cause issues, rod bearings aren't unheard of.

If you buy used and it has Full BMWSH but has no BMW warranty.

You buy it put warranty on it BMW warranty but unknowing to you it used to be tuned (or still is) then something goes wrong- bang. How does that sit with the warranty provider?

Has there been an M5 where these aren't mentioned?

Curious if the odd forum post warrants the attention for it to be 'a known issue' though.

They will probably throw the claim out.

According to Mr Vanos tuned ones seem to suffer the worst. He's currently rebuilding one with a new crank.
