Update - the white M3 from previous page, they are refurbishing the wheels all black. I agree, looks cheap (saves re diamond cutting them I presume). And they've taken a deposit from someone who's coming a long way for it today. Will pop in after work and see what's what.

The grey manual; edging away from it. Will take the DCT if the deal falls through today as long as they have not councilled the wheels already. Black coating with metal diamond cut face would be a nice update and match the shadow line details.

Had I wanted it that badly I would have put the deposit down on first viewing and not gone and viewed the manual. It's gone now to the second viewer. The more I see and drive the more sure I'll be when it's the right one. Climb the ladder, Monty.

So I've now driven two manuals and two DCTs and even though I set out for a manual I am warming to the DCT, it's very impressive compared to a standard auto. Also the second manual I drove had something not right with the box and the design of the shifter itself is hardly befitting of such an amazing car ;the shifter is too long. Annoyingly, the first M3 I drove (manual) was the best I've driven, the box lightly engaged each gear the same. The clutch was easy with a predictable bite point, the opposite of the second I drove. The first one didn't have EDC however so kept looking. In hindsight having tried EDC I don't think it's needed and should have got the first one. The soft EDC mode is similar to a non EDC car as far as my bum remembers which is plenty firm for UK roads.

This video is my favorite analysis of the E92 M3, his is a manual and @ 30:19 he says of the shifter it's "f**** garabage" but although I drove DCT first, back to back with a ZF in a M135i - and found the DCT distinct from even a very good auto , superior, amazing, like having a racing driver make shifts for me - I was smiling far more after my test of a manual. All 90 miles way home. I just enjoy changing gears, because it feels more involving.

Struggling to find a manual in my color/miles/spec I opted for a DCT in the 335i, influenced no doubt by that original M3 test drive. Good? For sure, better than ordinary auto? Yes;

But when it was in the garage, and I had manual loaners I just enjoyed changing gears. smile

I know now after having a DCT that on a daily basis I'd miss changing gears, so manual from now on.

I'm with you on this! Having used it long term I find it easy to pick up on faults too. It can be a bit jerky (in auto) when changing gears at low speeds and the default auto setting in (D2) is horrendously slow at dropping a cog when you want pull out briskly.

For what its worth I wouldn't bother going for EDC again - I did the same when buying and went with the forums opinion that it was a "must". As I don't track my car, I rarely use the EDC. Sport mode is useful to avoid scrapes due to rebound on speed bumps, but the EDC button doesn't get touched for 90% of the time.

Getting a bit disheartened, can't find one clean enough for my tastes and price range. My 78k 2006 330d is better condition than every M3 I've looked at bar the very first one I viewed which I didn't buy because it was the first one id viewed and wanted to try dct/edc.

You'll have to up the budget and stop being concerned with options like edc.

Condition is everything when looking at an older car.

Yep already over edc and front parking sensors. Can't live without heated leather though.

Sounds like a longer wait or increase in budget or compromise in specification or compromise in condition (and make it good).

Have you had a look on m3 cutters site you're more likely to find an enthusiast owned car.

I don't get being put off a car by it's wheels. If it's a decent car, just refurb the wheels in a colour you want or just sell them on and buy some more.

But it might give you a hint that a Barry Boy used to own it / possibly driven very hard.

It should be driven hard it's an M3 and I personally love the black wheels each to their own though

Looks like the 2011 BMW M3 "Frozen Black" Special Edition..... they all came with black wheels, red callipers and red stitching. My mate had one when they came out. Very stealthy. The Frozen paint looked good new, but was a pain to maintain, and he sold it on after a few years.

I think the gloss black wheels work better on the bold bright colours, but I would, as I have an LE500 in Santorini Blue. Love the DCT box. It will be interesting to see what E92 M3 prices do in the future. I'm not sure the new M4 interests me, so staying put.

Yet you say that and in a different thread an M3 owner was petrified that additional miles had been put on his car when in for a service specifically concern about thrashing it/OCD he only drives his car had it for years (even his wife isn't allowed to drive it.... serious OCD. It's a piece of metal not rare in the grand scheme of things not that valuable. If it had been a GTO maybe )

Everyone is different I guess I love cars but love to use them and drive them hard I'm not one who's obsessive over cleaning and detailing every week in fact I hate washing the car much prefer to drive it! That's why I've never owned a TVR I've considered it many times but I don't think I take care of cars well enough to own one.
