2 owner, 75k miles. Has 'cheap' tyres on it but otherwise the service history looks to be spot on. To be fair, last service was in April at about £1300 so I guess the owner decided to call it a day and put budgets on.

I went for manual, just because for me I enjoy the driving experience regardless of whether it's a little slower. That sound though! cloud9

I've set up the M button, but only after I realised the engine had to be on... was worried I'd bought a dud hehe

Taking it to my local indie next week for a health check, fingers crossed I've not bought a pup...

D4SH, if you're on Facebook (yes, I know), there are a few really helpful groups. The best one I've found is ///M3NTAL.

Some great people on there.

How does the M140i compare in outright pace vs the E92M3?

Very similar throughout, I would've thought?

On a faster circuit like the Nurburgring, the E92 will get away.

On somewhere tighter, the M140 will keep up with that torque availability.

I have joined the fold! Went with the heart and gone with a manual. I've never had a car this quick before so feels plenty fast enough for me! It was also cheaper than the DCT, leaving a contingency budget for any looming bills.

I've not had it a day yet, but very very impressed so far bounce
Congrats, very nice! I went with the heart (manual) and not regretted it one second. Infact I'm appreciating it more the longer I have the car and I'm sure you will too. Did my first track day with it at Castle Combe yesterday and it was brilliant, wouldn't change a thing. Love the challenge of juggling braking, steering and all three pedals at the same time. Even better when the car moves around on the bumps going over Avon rise at the end of the pit straight!

Was CC your first track day? I'm very keen to give this a go as well soon...

They are intoxicating. I thought mine sounded a little quiet when I was test driving it. I thought I would need to open up the aural experience a bit by doing an exhaust mod of some kind.

Having bought it though, and driving it for the last few days, I've discovered that the standard exhaust note is fine, and seems to get deeper when the car is fully warmed up, unless it's my imagination.
What you're hearing is mostly induction noise not the exhaust.

The 2 pipe exhaust mod made the car for me, would strongly recommend it.

I have to be careful though. I've got a two year BMW approved used warranty with mine.

I assume modding it in any way would invalidate this?

I went M Performance, the standard box is really heavy, the tips look poor and its too quiet.

SO, my thinking was by the time I cut up the standard box and do the tips I'm into about £300. Buy an M Performance which is THE job and I can always take it off if I decide to sell the car, sell it and not be much worse off.

For a bit more sound, I'd go for a primary decat as you get the added benefit of a bit more grunt. It's not a massive difference, but feels less strangled at the top end.

If you've already got the exhaust mod, I'd steer clear of the decat as it's a bit loud:

I can confirm having had warranty work very recently (a new battery) that the exhaust mod doesn't effect the AUC warranty. I have the 2.5 mod, got it done within two weeks of buying the car and it honestly is the best thing you can do to the car. Mine is a toy though and it just makes driving it much more of a special event, DCT downshifts biggrin

Yes cold starts are brutal, and there is a slight drone at 70ish mph but it is brilliant.

Will a manual convertible, around the £20k mark hold its value reasonably well?

Convertibles are the least desirable.

What other vert does £20k buy?
A4 diesel
420d

Will it hold value ? No no car does but relative to what else you can buy for that budget it’s rather appealing.

Or possibly an Audi S5?
