So many BMW M2 for sale..
Discussion
I just bought an m4 in the end 2 weeks ago because I thought the m2 was too short a chassis therefore bumpy over b roads where I tend to drive and I was comparing it to my 2016 m135i
The m2 is a lovely car but the out right price versus a 1 yr old m4 with more power and performance and more spec as standard I just couldn't see past it.
I was also slightly disappointed that the seats and interior were exactly the same as my 30k m135i and that didn't sit well with me .
For the record the dealer I bought the m4 from had an m2 for sale in long Beach and he admitted they are getting 'very' hard to shift and he is a top 10 m car seller in the country!

I have been "shot down" for saying exactly that, they ain't shifting and the Approved Used site is chock full of them reduced. The m2 is a lovely car but the out right price versus a 1 yr old m4 with more power and performance and more spec as standard I just couldn't see past it.

I interested in seeing the CS version, it could be a game changer.
The M2 and M4 are great in their own right. I test drove them both and bought the M2 despite them being similarish price on Pcp.
Found the M2 more "usable" in terms of performance and prefer the noise. Also prefer the looks and sound.
Interior is a bit plop but I've added some carbon and alcantara to try and distinguish it from the 118d.
I think a load of speculator types bought M2s thinking they could sell them for a profit after a few months and I am surprised how many are available used right now and short term values will drop quite fast. Great news for someone looking for a great value car!
Will keep mine for 5 years +, nothing else in the price range does it for me

I'm look at getting an M235i at the moment. Driven a M140i with the ZF and it's good but steering is a bit numb as is the norm with lots of modern cars these days. If the pices on M2's keep dropping then good. It wouldn't make much man maths to justify getting one. Can see where people come from in terms of new vs new costs. Is the M2 £20k better than a M235i? A remap, some Bilsteins and Eibachs and you could get a M235i almost as good as an M2.
Just traded in my M2 after just six months and 2000 miles. Moving onto my original choice, the M4. Depreciation on the M2 is the same as any other BMW “M” so anyone hoping for 1M-esque residuals is in for a shock.
Summary of the M2:
The good ...
Great sound effects.
Good low speed torque.
Nice to look at from some angles.
Reasonable on fuel.
The bad ...
Gutless over around 4000 rpm.
Not good to look at from some angles.
Bargain basement interior esp seats.
Missing so many toys and premium feel the M4 has.
Apple CarPlay worse than useless.
The dials are so dark you can’t even see them wearing shades (fixed in LCI).
Digital speed readout, if printed on A4, would be about 14 pixels in size - useless as so tiny (especially given the dials problem above).
You can’t have the speed limit display showing at the same time as your current speed - what nutter thought that makes sense?
The M4 (I’ve driven 3) despite looking a bit wrong and being too big has great power throughout the rev range and never tails off. Plus it has all the toys including the fantastic heads up display.
The perfect M has yet to be created. We live in hope.

I came from 6 months of ownership of an m135i which at its price level is brilliant and considered he m2 but you have nailed exactly what I thought and which is why I went straight to buy an m4 in July. The ride is a lot Joe complaint over bumpy B roads and of course 430bhp is rather fun also. It's a more grown up car basically. If I wanted a 50k additional sports car then it would be an exige or Evora but hankfukly ive got my other toys to do that job and the m4 was for practically reasons on that front it's unbeatable except for a c63

Oh. E46 coupe. Friable interior and boot floor, but otherwise...

There must have been something wrong with yours. Mine is alright from low down, a bit less so than my RS3 was, but doesn't really get going until you're over 4500. The way it builds to the redline was a real selling point for me, worth revving out, which I wasn't expecting from a turbocharged engine (this is my first BMW mind)Porsche GT cars have come lower in price for various reasons and there is lots to choose from and it's a common theme with other brands including BMW . I know of people that paid 55k for an M2 thinking it was the next 1M investment car and yet here we are with cars under 40k.,
Car leasing is so prominent now that most don't care about future value so will happily land the dealer with the car then the dealer just wants rid .and these cars were not made with limited supply .
It's currently taking forever to sell high end property so this isn't just restricted to luxury cars .
It's a sign of the times

In what way was the M2 gutless?
I'm assuming it was the lack of crescendo that just makes it feel a bit flat after the initial fireworks. I've not driven an M2, but I would think that being based on the N55 in the M135i it produces loads of low down torque and then doesn't really feel like it picks up massively from there. To be fair, I didn't think the F80 M3 was all that different really, it just had loads of go, everywhere.bennyboysvuk said:

I can relate to this. My F10 M5 can 'feel' gutless at the top end compared to my previous E60 M5, although the reality is nothing like that. However the E60 felt like it was really screaming at the top end because of the characteristics of the engine of this is missing in the F10.skeeterm5 said:
