Thanks. At what stage was this? Had you spec'd and ordered the car at that point?
Yes, ordered and contract signed with all spec confirmed apart from the colour (Misano looks great in the press shots but I found it pretty bland in the metal when I went to see the Z4 they had in Misano). When I sat down with my guy at BMW to spec the car he said ceramics are a must and then when I said I'm pulling out because the car isn't really special enough and that £82k is crazy for a 2 Series he replied "Well, why would you want ceramics? There's no point in having them and it'll take six grand off the price".He was pretty dejected but didn't seem surprised - he asked me to confirm in writing my reasons for cancelling so that he could pass back to BMW and the way he asked me was as if he knew it was coming and that cancellations were commonplace.
Given that price-wise it's in the same ball park as the Porsche GT4 (if you can get one at list), I would've expected it to be a two seater, much lighter and possibly with a half cage etc.
Sensible decision though - timing for the CS is disastrous.

Might be time to change that user name!

Ha ha, Yes - perhaps "M2 CS declined" may be a better user name now.Sensible decision though - timing for the CS is disastrous.
I may be reading too much into it, but I can't help thinking that the lack of chatter about the CS on this forum and others reflects the lack of enthusiasm for the CS. The original M2 and M2 Comp on the other hand seem to have plenty of followers.
I bought a bit of a CS last week.....for my Corvette
I thought the bonnet vent looked a neat solution and although the M2 CS isn't yet listed on realoem, with a bit of persuasion Bath Dick Lovett parts department came up trumps, with the vent arriving from Germany in a few days. Less than £50 and I'm happy with the functionality.

I expressed my interest in a M2 CS and was promised allocation at my local BMW dealer prior to lockdown, however, when they called to take the deposit I declined and bought Cayman 981 GT4 Clubsport spec car instead. Having owned an original M2 i didn't think the M2 CS was special enough for the money.
I live about 100 metres away from the Head of Business of my local BMW dealership and was chatting with him on Sunday, he said I did the right thing in pulling out of the M2 CS and buying a GT4 as he said the M2 CS is nothing special and is not worth the extra cost over and above a M2 comp even though there will be a lot fewer in numbers.

£92k for a shopping trolley
Some sucker will buy it I’m sure..
I am a big fan of BMWs but this is really just exploiting true BMW fans. You can get a few year old McLaren for that...Some sucker will buy it I’m sure..
The one thing I learned about BMW is to never buy new at list price - just look at M4s sold now for 42k+ prereg.

It is mental, isn't it. I wonder when the day will come that cars are not a great source of inflation? Some sucker will buy it I’m sure..
Someone didn’t tell this dealer.
£92k is off the scale mental for a 2 series.

Ninety two thousand pounds!
The 718 Cayman GT4 isn't selling at over list why would this?
limited numbers, the m3 gts is a £150,000 car for ex nowThe 718 Cayman GT4 isn't selling at over list why would this?
So that's a bigger global run than E46 CSL but less than 1M for example, but both those cars had about 450 come to the UK, so it's definitely rarer than those.
That said, M3 GTS was vanishingly rare at about 150 or so globally... so genuinely hen's-teeth collectable material.
Where are the UK road tests of this car?
Obviously, Covid -19 had an effect on road tests being conducted during the early phase of the lockdown. But things are appearing to almost return to normal in that respect now? Customers are now taking delivery of their cars, yet still no substantive UK road tests by the likes of Autocar, Evo to mention but a few?

The embargo lifts early August so we'll have to wait until then. I know a few press embargos have been elongated as it's hard to get a quick turn-around of press into cars and therefore the embargo is set for once all major reviewers have had chance to experience the car..........
