Seen both of those. I was referring to tests on UK roads as opposed to track tests.

Edited to add: Just read a 2 day old post on FB claiming there is a UK press embargo on reviews??

There is, tests have happened but the "influencers" have to keep schtum for now. Tbf it will be awesome albeit expensive. I still lust after the M3CS, totally love that car in the grey cloud9 still a lot today though at +£60k ish.

We should be getting ours in September. It’s expensive, but we think it’ll be great. It’s a small BMW with a manual box in an age of tech-heavy bloated and steroidal super barges. Appreciate cayman gt4s are also cool. Just a different proposition really I think. Anyway thought I’d post given suggestions that everyone’s backing out. I’d be a little surprised if just 100 cars aren’t spoken for regardless.

If anyone has driven theirs yet would love to hear about the experience!

I cancelled too btw.

I'm sure the car will be great to drive, but at its crazy high price there are much better cars.

Good for you! All the lap times so far show it’s a very capable car and with rear seats and decent ground clearance it’s more practical than a GT4. Please do report back on how you find it. What spec have you gone for?

Did you manage to sell your allocation?

A quick trip to Litchfield Motors takes care of any performance disparity between the CS & the Comp for the princely sum of £864.

I didn't think that was an option on the M2 CS?

Standard car vs modded nonsense though. The CS is exclusive + looks amazing which is surely 80% of the "want"?

Misano blue with gold wheels like the press cars, manual, standard brakes and the Michelin semis. No extra bits like motorised seats etc. Basically as light as we could get it without paying for ceramics!

£75k for a 2 Series that isn't especially special is a bit of a pisstake. The engine has been used in the same tune in the M3/4 for ages. There is undoubtably some additional cost in the suspension and the rest is an, erm, 2 Series/M car parts bin special. I couldn't get excited about one in the same way I would a GT4, for example.

Yeah but the parts bin thing is trotted out quite a lot. Was said about the CSL which was panned. The 964 RS was on paper a Carrera 2 on a diet. Of course these things are always relatable to the less good version that shares DNA, but that sometimes belies the effect of the end product. There is a fair bit of true innovation. The roof is structural and a new type of carbon fibre panel, and the aero is more sophisticated, specifically the bonnet airflow channelling, but these things are of course a matter of taste and opinion. I think it’s cool, and small car big engine will always have the potential to be special on its own. A short wheelbase with F40 power, which I still find unbelievable even given how BHP has developed, is how I see it. Others may not agree, and the geeks will probably only come out and decide it’s a classic, if that ever happens, in ten years when they’re cheaper. Meanwhile I think it’ll be a hoot to drive, and a lot more fun than some of the bigger stuff BMW M are making.

Edited for typo.

I think it's cool. Just not sure it's the sum of its parts. I had an F80 CP and loved it. It was a do everything car. It was also about £15k less than an M2 CS.

I get the argument that a the CS might be more of a weekend car and an M3 a duty saloon. However, then, you have to say, why would you choose an M2 above a Cayman GT4 as a weekend car?

I know, it's yada, yada, yada, and much of it down to personal preference. But... £75k for a parts bin 2 Series...

All good points. Just something about M2 for me. I have a 964 and a cup car so def Porsche team
In general, but also have a CSL. The M2 CS is the only thing that’s new that gets me going for some reason. Unless a CSL came out, which is possible I guess according to some cryptic comments from Flasch, but at this rate will probably cost 250 grand with four in RHD.

Also couldn’t spend that kind of money for anything Porsche except a 997 GT3!

The term 'parts bin special' was also applied to the 1M and that's another very special thing to drive, totally belying the sum of its parts.

And why would you have an M2 over a GT4? Well if you've got young children and not much time the drives in a weekend two seater are extremely limited.

Good on you for sticking with the order. I'm sure it'll be an awesome drive and I'm looking forward to hearing more about it once th UK road test are published.

M2 CS not selling? So only around 100 in UK so why are 3 of them press cars?

Top Gear/Joe Achillies driving a Misano Blue (DCT & CCB), Autocar a Hockenheim Silver (DCT & CCB) and EVO a black one (Manual & CCB)

Would have one in a heartbeat if:

a) I could afford one and
b) I could get one wink

The problem with using the 1M as an example is just how very different the car was over its lesser counterpart (135i). The M2 comp is 95% of a CS, does it really justify the extra price?

I love the M2 CS, but its not a 70k car. Remember the 1M when new was 40k...
