Can you take out a warranty with BMW if the car you're looking to purchase is not currently covered?

Pretty sure you can , may be have to confirm services on time etc. Once you've paid it doesn't start for a month however .

Yes. Mileage has to under a certain threshold and have been serviced to BMW spec but not necessarily by BMW themselves.

Put the reg in here and it will tell you eligibility.

Thanks. I may do some enquiring. I kind of fancy running an E60 for a year just to own the V10, and paying just over £100 a month for the warranty doesn't seem too bad for a "get it out of my system" car.

I put my E39 in there and it gave me a quote, and it hasn't seen BMW or anyone else for a service for years, so I cannot rely on that.

Well, that is something. You could always give them a call and ask about servicing e.t.c.

I just check my 01 m3 . £350 per month , think I'll pass . It does say that you have to show the service book fully stamped to qualify

Just a basic check on mileage really, as long as it is done as per BMW intervals, stamped etc should be fine. Guess they will only check this if the car had any issue, dont quote me though best to call up and check

my e39 m5 was listed at nearly £4,000 a year or £4.5k if paid monthly...

I think I will self-warrant!

Do make sure the service history meets the warranty's requirements before paying Mondial any money. It's quite possible that one side of their business will happily sell you a warranty but the other side will deny a claim if a flaw is later found in the service history. I have twice had to provide my service book before a warranty claim would be honoured even though the car was bought as an AUC and the warranty has been in effect continuously thereafter. Mondial doesn't seem to have direct access to the service history information.

With Mondial warranties you get into a circular debate with who ultimately authorises works - I've had numerous occasions where the dealer says Mondial won't authorise and you phone Mondial and they say it as at the dealers discretion and to speak to them!

It is clear that dealers have some kind of allocation / target for warranty claims which discourages them from being advesarial to the owner. Ultimately these disputes generally end with Mondial making a "goowill gesture" if you press hard enough and have evidence of brand loyalty

Overall I have benefitted significantly from keeping the policy going. But I did want to flag that despite my car having a full service history with the same main dealer it is not plain sailing and if you do have a policy on a car that does not have a dealer friendly history, it wouldn't surprise me if further barriers appeared when it comes to making a claim.

You could Try Motor Easy
The wording of the warranty is almost identical... covers all components dealer labour rates.. much lower excess and cheaper policy...
Wear and tear and consequential loss cover from day1...

I have one on my E92 M3, £85 a month. Not had to claim yet, touch wood, but like you the ruinous bills worry me.

I ran my AUC 335i for 2-3 years without warranty (after the 1 year AUC warranty had passed).

No problem with later signing up to the Mondial warranty, just had to wait 30 days before the first claim.

I had around £3K of work done last year (new head unit, new iDrive controller, new diversity amplifier, new rear wiring loom). For £40 per month, well worth it.

I've not had great experience with the Mondial warranty tbh and will be cancelling after I get some work completed.

That's if they cover it.

I have a rear shock "weak" (?!) and needs replacing for which I'm told the warranty will cover it.

I also have slight play in lower wishbones but warranty won't cover that so that's 900 quid sir.

Also told it won't cover an oil leak on diff.

This all on comprehensive warranty with allianz (aka mondial) on a sub 50k f10.

Pushing to have it all done otherwise I'll get none of it done and fix it myself.

I had my shocks done due to leaking.

Bushes they won't cover in general.

Why won't they cover bushes? I don't see it listed in the policy document under exclusions for the comprehensive warranty.

Bushes is just wear and tear. Had my diff seals done under Mondial on my E60 M5. Did the front suspension arms myself with Lemforder ones from Euro's when they had money off. Cost was about £120 for the pair of arms.
