What are the M6's like in the wet? Traction issues?
From a stand still there is only so much you can do with RWD and 560+ bhp and an abundance of low down torque, but once up to speed it is fine (though you can easily get the DSC warning if you put the hammer down in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear...). A lot also depends on tyres, and ambient temperature. I run mine (albeit an M5) on winter tyres from October to March and that helps a lot.

These cars are very tempting, but certainly one to buy and hold onto to even out the depreciation cost if you're a mere mortal!

Any side shots?

Not wishing to spoil the love, but in what way is this “Pluto-Barge” an M-car?

If it were a 640M\\\ Gran Coupe, no problem.

But M is meant to be Motorsport rather than a Marketing...

It's no less an M car than the F10 M5 or M6 though.

And if you don't class those as M cars, then no current M car is an M car.

You could argue the first M car was the only M car, because since then they've become increasingly less focussed and more and more comfortable.

I get your point though. I wish BMW would have kept the CSL brand going and restrained it's use to truly sports orientated models.

Instead they just did loads of random variants of M3 (GTS? Others), and now they have M3 CP etc... the M brand is now getting stratified too much and it's just bloody confusing imo.

But that's not to say any single car can't be impressive in isolation of how BMW place it in the lineup.

The M6 GC is clearly pretty special, interesting and appealing.

I'm now wondering if Alpina did anything with the 6 GC.

It’s impressive, and it’s very comfortable. Maybe that should be the other way round? It was very comfortable and then it was “very impressive” in that I was having a “you can not be serious” moment.

But, if having Warp Drive at your disposal is what constitutes an M-car, we can all set fire to our cars and go and buy a Mk 1 Elise...

Wow 600bhp with awd!

But those wheels eek

They need to rethink the modern take on the classic.
The bunched up 5 spoke multispokes would suit the 6er more imo!

I'd also have to fit the M steering wheel.

Nope, that’s why I’m asking.

But then, I used to own an M3 fitted with a sunroof and electric seats, so...

There is no doubt that the M6 or M6 GC is NOT a nimble little sports car like the E30 M3 was, it's not meant to be. It's a large GT car that handles better than it has a right to given it's size and (considerable) weight. It's a motorway mile muncher which is also not two bad on A and B roads. It's just an M5 with a different skin after all.

The M brand has evolved, it's nothing like as hard core as it used to be, but it's what the majority of paying customers want.

+1

I was going to buy an F80 M3 but for every day use and motor way miles it was way to full on. The M6 GC works for me, its comfortble on long runs and fun when out for a blast.

Something very 'German' about those wheels. Would suit an owner with a mullet.

The thing that usually puts me off Alpinas is the front air dam. On all their cars, it just looks wrong to me, as though it's just been pop riveted on as an after thought.

Eye of the beholder and all that. There was a Metropolitan Blue one up for sale recently that looked the business to me, can't say the Clio does much for me, but I've always liked bigger cars.

Nah looks really nice does that. Private joke between me and Toby that's all. Annoyed I didn't get to see it Toby...

For some reason I am a 29 year old idiot and prefer driving hatch backs.
