I think that the M6GC and M5 (despite sharing a lot of mechanicals) are actually very different cars; I've always liked the M5 for what it is, but I have never yearned to own one - I wanted an M6GC from the day the came out. cloud9
It's one of these situations that maybe makes no sense on paper. An M5 is a very good Q-car and very understated, but (in my opinion) not very special at all.
Really depends on what you're after. thumbup
Thanks. All good feedback.

I agree on the M5 vs M6. You almost need to look twice to know its an M5 (some appeal in that) but the M6 (moreso since I sat in one and drove it) feels special. The low seating position gives you a sense of being in something special.

My argument about M5 is that if for whatever reason I Cant find an M6, the M5 will do, is more about the performance albeit in a very different car.

Interesting comment about the Competition sound. I know they are a bit louder, I wasnt aware this one was decatted till I was told. Ive heard an M5 decat before and it was obscene. This was 'mild' if that's at all possible.

Regarding M2,3,4 etc, I think having something agile is great. I drove the Giulia QF and it was spectacular. It was great due to the steering feel, the acceleration but what was amazing is how well refined it is and how well it just does 'daily' driving.

What' ive realised (Ive had an A8 before) is that I love luxury. But what's clear now is that its not a firm ride that frustrates me, its a noisy cabin. My wife has a 2012 Mini Countryman Cooper S Petrol. Its firm, but I dont mind it. The road noise at 80 mph is harsh ..... I cant deal with that.

Of course 'toys' are nice. We looked at the newer X3 4.0i and whilst many dont like the new dash, I kinda like it. That said, yesterday's drive showed me that I had no interest in the audio system or idrive, I was just enjoying the driving experience.

So an M2 Competition could work, if it was refined enough for daily duties. We have the Mini for family duties (its not large but it works for 4 up with some stuff in the boot) and ill likely keep my Range Rover, so that's also an option.

I could therefore go for a 2 seater car but ultimately Id rather cart the family around in a M6 GC than drive the Mini (or range for that matter). The range is 2003, 4.4i V8, sucks fuel and doesnt really offer much back in terms of performance. Its fairly quiet and comfortable, but that's where it ends.

So ye, 'anything' goes at this stage.

FWIW, ive previous driven a Panamera Turbo, left me a bit cold. It was quick but nothing special. I like a car to be 'playful'. I like steering with the throttle.

I also have a 2021 BMW S1000XR as my other daily. Its quick and angry. Its not the best daily as its a bit noisy and wants to be ridden hard, but it works for what it is.

Thanks buddy smile

Congrats on the M4 - that's very strange - it was this thread about an M4 that I first fell in love with San Marino Blue, and then when I first test drove an M6GC at a dealer back in 2019 it was parked next to an M4 in SMB and it was absolutely stunning, and it was at that moment I decided I had to have my M6GC in that colour. Here's the photo I took of the M4...

What's also strange is that I too had a 3 Series (E92) in Le Mans Blue - we seem to have very similar tastes in car specs hehe
Le Mans blue was a really nice colour, but San Marino is just on another level entirely - I've had as many positive comments about the colour of the M6GC as I've had about the car itself!
Thank you. beer

Cheers for that thread and the photo as well. smile

We definitely have very similar tastes for sure! thumbup

^^^^ what he said^^^^
If you're seduced by the M5 why would you not choose to go out with the prettier sister rofl

SMB is well suited to the M6 but (when it's clean) Black Sapphire is simply stunning. The shot below was taken about a month ago as I came out of Tesco and even then it still had winter wheels on, I had to stop my trolley and take a picture so not the best composed. I don't think BMW have ever built a better proportioned and looking car. Don't settle for an M5 unless you really want to blendbiglaugh

And with proper wheels

I think the Giulia QF is a very similar car to the M6GC in terms of what it offers, but does it in quite a different way. For me I preferred the M6GC for a number of reasons, refinement, interior cabin, space, looks, but I appreciate a lot of these things are subjective.
I think the Giulia looks fantastic from some angles, but from others it looks a bit awkward and unresolved, and the proportion don't look quite right somehow (to my eyes anyway wobble )

And me. cloud9 That was a big factor when I chose an M6GC; I'd had a BMW 740iL previously, and I absolutely loved that car, but despite James Bond and Jason Statham (Transporter) having them(!) I felt it wasn't a particularly cool car (and I was a bit young to own a 7 series!), and although it was quite swift for a big car, it couldn't play the 'sports car' role in any way like the M6GC can.

Thanks, all good info.

So. Pre Facelift cars. Small idrive knob (no jokes), different exterior looks.

What else is different (apart from a lower price)?

Considering this https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202009043...

or

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202104191...

as feasible cars. 2nd has B&O, same year but £5K dearer (and more miles).

The MSport Multi Function seats (code 4MA, £1,865) became standard, as did the full Merino leather (I think)

The first car AO13 UFD - has been for sale for a long time, and it's priced significantly below market value, especially with that low mileage, - I seem to remember it having a story perhaps?

Second car is very well spec'd, and if it checks out, would definitely be my choice of the two.

Thanks. Wonder what the story is with the 1st one.

2nd one due to B&O and possibly 'no story' or something else. Problem is, go up in a price a bit and then start finding LCI cars, and of course, back at 40K then ;p

As mentioned, full leather and multi function seats became standard, but a little later than the iDrive controller.

Also changed were the headlights which are slightly different and are full selective beam. There was also a change to the monitor surround and the iDrive system was updated.

Love these; definitely one of the better looking cars of the last couple of series I think.

How does the boot compare to the F10 though? I have an F10 (not m5 frown ) at the moment and the boot is fantastic for family duties and trips etc. I think i'm right in saying the GC boot is smaller , and a narrower opening?

The boot opening is a little on the small side, but the boot itself is pretty large. The rear seats also fold on the Gran Coupe (the don't on the Coupe) and although not flat, do enable large items to be carried.

The 'carbon pack' - is this the diffuser etc on this car? The sills look a bit obnoxious.

Well priced but maybe tampered with?

The splitter, skirts, diffuser, rear spoiler and exhaust on that are not OEM. The mirror caps maybe OEM 'M Performance' parts. The roof is standard obviously.

I find it hard to buy modified cars from dealers as you dont know the history nor do they.

The lowest approved used M6 GC is over £40k and theres only 10 for sale in the UK

Yep, that's my predicament. I could go that high, but I'd prefer not to. Hence looking at F10 M5s again ..... I do love the GC however.

The sills are too much, but other than that, I like it! smile

I think because the M6GC has a Carbon Roof as std, these other bits tie in quite well.

You don't have to limit yourself to AUC cars. I bought mine from a splendid place and they have one for sale (see link) which looks a million times better than the drug dealers car with the batman sills. If it has a full service history you can apply for a BMW Warranty, it'll cost more in yr 1 if it's out of the dealer warranty but yr 2 onwards it gets cheaper. Currently about £850 a year which includes full breakdown/ recovery but with £250 XS.

No connection other than a satisfied client.
