Recently did the rear discs/pads on my M2. Just to give you an idea of how much it can cost for //M brakes

I managed to find new rear discs for about £150 each from a german parts company on ebay. They are official BMW parts with aluminium bells and floating steel outer discs.

The pads i ended up going for genuine BMW items after looking at mintex/brembos. They were £125+vat direct from BMW.

I paid an indie £100+vat (2 hrs) labour.

So all in, £150+£150+£150+£120 = £570

I considered that pretty ok, but compared to a normal car it's really expensive.

I did the discs and pads all round on my mum's civic last month for no more than £180 for decent stuff

That's not bad for an M car discs and pads.

Quick question for owners...

How much negative camber do your cars have at the back?

I've just listed mine for sale. I must say this is by far the best car I have owned. Its such a great all rounder.

Sad to see it go when it does.
such a handsome car
Housen do you mind me asking a totally OT question?

I’m thinking of going in the opposite direction from an E63 650 to a 997 C2s, I see you’ve had one of those but I’m getting last minute nerves at the thought of letting go of the big BMW (no not an M6 but in a similar vein, the 650 is so good I can only imagine how awesome the M6GC must be.)

I don’t need the space but would be very grateful for your insight, or anyone who’s had both a 6 series and a 997?

Thank you

I've had two 996's (Carrera & turbo) and went to a M6GC.

It really comes down to how you use your car, and the split between your usage (commuting/fast B road driving/track days).

I had a Gallardo prior to the M6GC, but when I faced up to reality in terms of how little opportunity I had to go out for 'supercar worthy' drives, and how my usage was more getting places swiftly and in a level of comfort/convenience (plus needing the extra space for passengers) that was what drove the decision for me.

Tell us a bit more about what you plan to do with the car?

It's to be a daily driver, commute around 30 miles each way into London (8K miles per year so not massive), for other normal family stuff we have an SUV. I have a track car and a mid-engined sportscar and I have an EV coming at the end of the year, so I really want to scratch the 911 itch while I have the opportunity. A 991 sounds like it might be too grown up to fill that role and I don't need/ want the speed of a turbo. So no need to take it on track or anything, but I do need it to be daily useable and I just want to get the 100% 911 experience.

The dilemma is that the 650 is just so good it will be a wrench to let it go, but I think it's time for a change. 997's seem to be in the sweet spot between classic and high maintenance.

Thanks for your views.

Interesting, i looked at a 911 too as i've never owned a Porsche, but i was a bit underwhelmed by the one i drove (C2). And you see them everywhere. To me the M6 felt far more special (especially with the interior- 997 interiors are so dull and you really have to look for one with any level of decent options ticked gadget wise), engine sound. If you already have a track car, i think the M6 ticks the more 'all things to all men' factor a daily could/should offer than a 911.

Thank you, that's all good advice. Which I will promptly ignore! I've just bought a 997.1

I do know what you mean, I'm sure I will gravitate back to an M6 (or even an M850i if they eventually start to depreciate properly) but the chance to try a Porsche was to hard to resist. I will definitely miss the big BMW coupe though.

and i'm sure you will enjoy it. As you said, if you can tick it off your list that is great. Would be interesting to hear how you get on in a few months time.

I was switching between car choices like mad before i just happened to spot a great spec low mileage M6 GC which sort of made my mind up for me. Could have been a 911 or a Jag F type V8 if autotrader had spat out the right spec spin

Not much to say. Looks tidy and reasonably priced. One owner too. thumbup

It'd be interesting to know what options it does/doesn't have - I hate these generic spec lists that include things that every car has (Outside temperature display, ABS, etc), and also things that are standard on that model (Carbon fibre roof, Heads-up display, and pretty much everything else on that list!!)

I'm not seeing anything on the list that was an option on the M6GC (Think I posted a link to all the options earlier in this thread), so it's maybe a poverty spec (relatively speaking of course, because the M6 is a high-spec 6 series GC in the first place).

Agree that looks a standard spec M6.

HK/ Adaptive lights, i'd get the VIN and then do a lookup as to which leather interior you have - should be Full Merino on a 2017 model. Are you happy with light grey interior? A bugg3r to keep clean i would have thought, but all down to personal preference.

Haggle hard - inspect the disks and pads/tyres before you buy as these are expensive in long run. I got BMW to put a new set of tyres on without too much pressure.

HK/ Adaptive lights,
HK is std on the M6 (B&O is the upgrade option), as are adaptive LED lights on the facelift cars (which this one is)

It's a good point!
Mine is the silverstone leather, and so I bought a pack of the disposable seat covers (that garages use) for if I'm ever going to be grubby sitting in the car (not often!) or if I'm collecting son from football or rubgy!! biggrin

Cheers guys.

What were the main options on the M6GC 2017 onwards?

Quite a few:

4 zone air con
heated rear seats
B&O sounds
heated steering wheel
front seat ventilation
soft close doors
keyless entry
360 view
night vision
seat massage
competition pack
sunblinds

are the main ones I can think of.

If you're thinking of getting one, its worthwhile spending some time on the BMW Approved site and see what options these cars have just for comparison.

Cheers.

The one above I linked to is “poverty spec”, not sure it bothers me that much as almost all those options to me are nice to have.

Price seems sensible also.

Do you find they handle better with low pressures?

In fairness, that's probably true of all options on all cars i.e the car will function without them, but they're nice to have hehe

Although, that said, when I was looking for my car, someone on here said the 360 surround camera is an essential option, and having owned the car for over a year now, I would agree; the M6GC is wide, long and low (which is why it looks so good) but it makes manoeuvring tricky.

Also, 4 zone air con is quite a rare option, and for a lot of owners who seldom have rear seat passengers, pretty much useless..
....but for me, I use my car as a proper Grand Tourer taking the family for big (fast) holidays and road trips, and the 4 zone was another 'must have' option for me.

Not tried that - definitely rides better if 1-2psi lower than it should be (spec is 33psi fronts 35psi rear for mine).
