Funny, I saw it earlier for £33k. Speak to Munich legends, and you can have the oils tested for contamination etc if they come back all good there is no problem + you can buy a BMW warranty privately for £1,200.

I didn't buy it as the the oil service was due in 6k and the pads / discs in 9k and they wouldn't budge on price @ £34.5k (they didn't disclose until 2 days before i was due to collect and I had been asking for 2 weeks!) + the niggle of the running in service and general bad customer service made me look at another which i bought in those 2 days smile . Ended up with a 2014 competition pack in Singapore Grey and 16k miles, just awesome...

I was told they had 10 people lined if I didn't buy it smilesmile

How can you test oils years and many miles later to test if the running in service was ok to have been overrun?

For all any test tells you it's now at 99% worn on the big end shells, just before they contaminate, but had it had the running in service on time it might be at 25% wear.

Who knows? Clearly BMW don't so they won't offer a warranty.

Will ML offer a full warranty like AUC after their test?

The car is at a BMW dealer, but they won’t put AUC on it because of the very late running in service. They have offered 2 years select warranty but that has a max claim limit of £4K, so the buyer runs the risk of the engine going pop. Plus at trade in I suspect they would knock me down due to the running in service being missed.

Shame as I say, car seemed nice, and service I experienced was good. Strange it was missed, this was the guys 3rd M5 and traded in to buy a Porsche

ML dont do the test, they just advised for complete piece of mind you can send samples of the diff, transmission and engine oil to be tested for any contamination. I had found a company to do the test http://www.theoillab.co.uk/buy-kits/

You can still buy the BMW warranty as a private person for complete piece of mind @ £1,200pa. The sole reason I didn't buy the car is Sytner holding back information e.g when asking when the next service was due, brakes etc being told the info wasn't available and the sales guy explained he would need management permission to share... WTF

But, all being said it's a great car with an amazing spec!

Does the running in service show in the I drive service history?

Mine has the service pack, so I am sure it was done, but it is not listed.

It should show on iDrive. You could also ring BMW dealer and ask as it should show on the system. The presence of a service pack doesn't guarantee it was done.

Personal view is that I would have no issues in owning and running the car with the late RI but wouldn't touch it in practise as it would like trying to get rid of a st stain from a white cotton towel come resale time.

There is just way too much internet noise in existence over the importance of the RI service to have any chance of someone buying it without questioning it.

That car is doomed to an eternal life of trouble in the resale dept.

That said it wouldn't surprise me if at some point in the future the idrive was hacked and the RI service date/mileage made good.

Very pleased to be reading this post....I've put a refundable deposit on this car, due to see it in a week or so. Was also attracted by the high spec and reasonable price. But as everyone has said, best to avoid due to lack of RI service. Thanks for all the advice above!! I'll be letting the dealer know I'm not going to progress and get my deposit back

Its hardly internet noise is it, if BMW won't put their own AUC full warranty on the car....

Understood, but I think what I wrote gives the wrong impression

What I meant what there is just too much info on the net to have a chance of selling it - everyone is aware of its importance and issues selling/trading because of it.
