Has anyone considered buying a MOD Surplus CR2? The fuel economy is a bit rubbish but you don’t need to worry about parking or handing as you can park or drive whereever you like.

Plus, think of the Golf Club Bragging Points that the engine gives you.

Obviously, that you've parked on top of all the other members cars “may” be an issue, but it will easily carry the Bugaboo and the golf clubs, while the bustle racks have ample space for the grocery run.

Also: easy night driving due to the night vision system.

It’s only slightly larger (although somewhat heavier) than the X5/6 Schutzenpanzer too.

I’ve got a spare M\\\\ badge you can have. HTH... smile

I've been in discussions with the dealer again and have a final deal on the table that I'm currently mulling over.

Spec is 21" wheels, sun protection, surround view and speed limit display. Discount is just under 24% which I think is pretty sharp.

There is a price increase from 26th Jan of just over £2k, so I need to make a decision this week.

The service pack is £999 (3yrs 36k miiles), I know these require a 1200mile service circa £550. Does anyone know what the 1st service cost is ? which will better inform if the £999 is worthwhile, I think it'll probably be serviced once within the 3 yr service window, maybe twice.

Not sure which part of country you are in, but running in should be a lot less. I was quoted a standard discount price of £370. In the end I had a bit of a whinge as dealer messed up tracker install so got it for nothing. From memory I think they said next service at about £420 and looks to be due @ c19k for me. With this in mind I wouldn’t bother. You may save a £100-£150 over 3 years, but if you get board and switch any earlier your definitely be out of pocket.
I will add that if you plan on using at all in snow/ice you will definitely need winter wheels/tyres. Those massively wide Michelin SS are shockingly bad. No kidding, i’ve never had so many heart in mouth near misses. Parked the car on slight iced slope for client meeting, knock on the door 20 mins later to tell me my car was slowly sliding down the street. Found it 20 feet away from where I parked it. Gulp. 20” Pirelli Scorpions winter wheel package has transformed it into the ultimate winter weapon. £3,700 well invested.
Only other point, my dealer begged me to make sure I got the sunroof. They said that they previously had a X5M in the Cooper network for 5 months that they eventually had to trade on. Basically said they wouldn’t want to touch it in the future as a trade-in without. I honestly thought I’d never use it (never did in M5) but I feel it really lifts the interior (as well as future value!)
Regardless, get it bought, it really is the ultimate everyday car. Let us know how you get on?

Deal done and deposit paid.

Sun protection, 21" wheels, surround view, speed limit display and the panoramic roof.

I've went forward with Silverstone and Black interior. I looked at the blacks, the whites, Long beach blue and the Donnington Grey but decided Silverstone was the best out of them all. Not had a silver car for a long time.

Roll on early April !

I've just pulled the plug on one of these too.

Great deal done on a physical car in my local dealership, should collect Weds.

Having owned (and p/x) my F10 M5 for the last 32 months, I like the fact that some of it feels very familiar, yet the new infotainment systems look to be a great step forward.

Once its run in I will be able to gage just how brutal the thing is. But its going to offer greater practicality over the F10 (which so far has been my fav car to run - big shoes to fill indeed).

My last 3 cars will now be.

X5 4.0d M Sport
F10 M5
X5M

There is a pattern there i'm sure.

I came across this when looking at the X5M, also found it's manufactured Spartanburg USA and not europe. Some may find it sad or geeky.

Ive just ordered an X5M, absolutely ridiculous deals for registration in Q1. several cars in BMW stock. Ive had Cayenne and Macan turbos since 2003 so looking forward to getting back to BMW!? like you, ive bought 'blind' as no local cars on demo.

Audi are also doing great deals on stock RS6 as they are no longer in production...

Well it arrived just over 4 weeks ago and what an outstanding machine it is.

I've only just ticked over 400 miles due to work commitments meaning I've been sporadically in and out of it. Not managed to really get to know it yet. Haven't stretched it's legs too much but I'm very impressed. Another month or so till the 1200 service.

I wanted a load lugging family bus that would also have performance. It ticks both boxes.

I've had mine since mid Feb - Its finally run and and can have its legs stretched.

Impressions coming from F10 M5 is that it feels much slower (I knew that would be the case given its size and weight) but it feels M2 fast, not M3/M4 as I was hoping..

It seems to be geared shorter for greater low end pull, and the RPM limit is lower than the F10 (which is strange given its the same engine)..

Gearbox is nice, exhaust note is better than F10 too and the interior is miles better in terms of look and quality.

Family like it, I just wish it felt a little quicker, will be meeting up with some friends who all have M2/M3/M4/M5 soon, so will be able to see exactly how quick it is rather than how quick it feels from the driving seat....

Cheers

Steve

My felt really tight for the first 5-8000 miles. Just gone through 12k and is pulling significantly harder. Had a nice drag against a friend in his 2018 RS3 saloon last week and he was a good few car lengths back when we eased up. I think it’s also the initial bulk that makes the car seem, or gives perception of being a little more sluggish than it is and it definitely needs to be reved harder than an M5 to perform, which is a pleasure. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised how it compares to the other M’s side by side.

Standing start it will fair well purely because of 4WD and the 2WD cars struggle to deploy full power - My M5 used to spin up all over the place..

My comment around speed is where you are travelling at say 70mph and floor it. M5 would head for the moon, this is a million miles from that.

It's not an M5, it'll never be an M5. Get over it or get an M5.
Why do people persist with these pointless comparisons?

I had an M5 before this. I know what M5s are like. I was hoping this would be comparable.
Its not. I'm over it.

Thanks for your solid input.

I'm glad you're over it, and it's still a great car.
Just for the record, I went from a 911 turbo S back to an M5, it took me quite a while to get over it but I'm very happy now.

Never been thanked for solid input before, glad to be of help. hehe
