Ill not be modifying it I dont think, plus insurance is really very expensive as it is for some reason.

Don't forget that even with the comprehensive BMW warranty, you will only cover a claim up to the most recent purchase price of the vehicle. So if the bearings fail and a rod is thrown through the block, you'll still be in trouble.
Yeah, I read. So having paid £24k, or even if the estimated value is £17k, a new engine from BMW will not cost that much correct? I know new blocks and stuff will be horrific - Ive heard £6-7k, that should be covered right?

Nice looking car Mike, I'm sure that you will like it. Good to keep the wife annoyed !!! just tell her not to worry its only a car!!!!!

I have been looking for a lower mileage M3 with a comp pack for the last three weeks. So far it has been a very frustrating process. Enquired via the BMW used site and phones calls to two dealers about two cars I really liked the look of. I had either no response or after a number of calls was then told 'oh that car sold an hour ago" ???? I am amazed that the cars a reselling so quickly??? Or maybe the dealers are ste. There is one low mileage car at Clinkards but they want just under £30K which I think is far too optimistic.
Cheers, I must admit finding one I actually wanted was a little difficult, good friend of mine told me to be patient and wait for the right one to turn up.

BMW dealers have always been awful to deal with, honestly I ranted on the other page but I was treated like st from day 1 when I bought my last BMW, right up to handing over the keys there was this wierd attitude almost like I was doing them a disservice by purchasing the car from them (this was in Hull), moved to Guildford around the same time and getting them to do warranty work was a big ask, literally couldnt give a st. Ford were better after I sold the BMW, and after the ford Renault have been really quite good. I think I was 24 at the time so maybe looking quite young and having a that black BMW to some people was a bit privileged. - to petrolheads who cares, but i did get a lot of attention in that car both positive and negative.

Sold the Megane this evening. Feel like I had a pet dog put to sleep. Literally feel awful since it's provided me with trouble free motoring for 18 months and been an absolute riot to drive. Picking up the m3 tomorrow.

So how was the first M3 day?!
So far so good. I've a lot to learn about the car and how it behaves but it seems to have huge amounts of lateral grip when needed. It's funny how advanced it is in terms of technology despite being a decade old. Even surpasses the Megane for tech. Seating position is a joke but I'm not sure if I actually like it. Motorway cruising was good, comfy and quiet. Has plenty of torque for overtaking.

I have copies of 50 cent and Eminem in the cd changer ironically left by the previous owner. I'm a metal head so doesn't suit my tastes.

Battery drain warning already but when I switched it on this evening and setup my usb music etc it went away.

Need to update sat nav...

Pleased so far but totally different from the Megane obviously. Where I could just floor it round some back roads in the Megane and let the diff and traction pull me round bends the m3 requires caution yet somehow seems to have heaps more grip than the Megane if you load up the suspension in corners.

Fuel economy is poor but probably not a whole lot worse than the Megane really. We shall see.

Assuming has fully adjustable electric seats? By far best seats and most attainable driving position I've had in a car. Go's up/down/back/fore and crucially tilts too which no other car I've driven does, crucial if your leggy like me. And the wheel is telescopic to suit leg length ( always set seat position for pedals THEN wheel after for arm reach).

You don't seem to have mentioned the sound. My 330d sounded better than Megane I went in. My first day I spent with the windows down and couldn't quite believe I had a V8 ??
Ha yeah the sound is ok really but this is my 2nd bmw. I am happy with the standard system.

Also driving with Windows down listening to the v8 smile

Thanks Grant, they are black, ill do a Readers car some time soon. Still learning the car and what it does so not been able to really enjoy it plus first trip to work and it was torrential rain and everyone driving cautious so no opportunity to really stretch its legs yet. Compared to the Megane which was fun to boot even when there was not a whole lot of room the M3 needs some breathing space. I am not used to is the engine braking when letting off the throttle its quite noticeable and my judgement of speed through corners isnt good with this car yet.

Im averaging 19mpg now I think, 185 miles done and estimated 85 left - fine if I can get 230 miles to a tank. Surprisingly the estimated range seems quite accurate as in Ill do a 15 mile trip and itll drop 15 to 20 miles depending on how I drove.

I need a new battery, I would like a new exhaust, Id like wheel spacers, GTS Gearbox software.... oh god upgradeitus has started. I need to get warranty sorted and geometry done asap really. Plus I dont know what insurance will be like with mods.

Planning to change the oil in 6 months or so and having an oil analysis done to see if anythings going wrong - oil was changed very recently and I shouldn't need to worry about servicing any time soon.

Starting to really like this car. Greasy weather isn't the best to learn a 420hp rwd car but hey nothing better than getting thrown into the deep end.

That engine is quite something. Refreshing change from the turbo bks we get these days.

Too far mate else Id take you up on that! Think ill go to Luton to Evolve(?) for that since they are fairly close.

New problems...list so far:

All vent catches broken (ordered new ones from states)
Heater when in auto/manual will turn itself on/off noticeable in traffic (literally juts stops blowing for a second then starts again)
Battery warning light still here (purchased a ctek charger to recon this weekend and for use every few weeks)
Welcome lights dont work (maybe battery related)

I guess what people mean by that comment lacking torque is that in Day to Day commuting driving which the car will be doing for the vast majority of its life it will be mundane and unless you change down gear slower than what some people drive so would feel a disappointment in it. Clearly you can change down a few cogs but for commuting that’s not really any point.

Families - Dads cannot seriously go out for an early Sunday morning drive leaving be kids yet again with the Mum while they go for a “drive” plus they would be saying guess what only 2 days off to see the kids a week and I’ll go off 4-5 hours playing golf or booming vs being with the kids taking them to Sports or dancing or swimming or parties etc. So enjoyment ends up being on the commute hence the view. All IMHO.
I don't have kids and tbhI don't really understand what either of you are talking about.

Mundane driving is a refreshing change from a Megane RS.

It has enough torque. I pulled on an E class diesel in 3rd tonight that was trying it on I wasn't even paying attention but I kept going out of interest. Then at about 5000rpm well then the fun begins and it couldn't keep up. I blipped it down a gear when we approached a junction and the silly twunts were properly excited by what just happened it was like i had just scored a goal against Germany in the world cup.

I took it out for a hoon last night in the dry and fk me what a car. Still working out the chassis. It feels quicker than the Megane in corners but then when I check the speed I'm 10mph down at least. I know it has more to give but I'll only try my luck a little at a time.

you have to work for the rewards in a E92 M3...whereas with say the M4 you don't, and I'd prefer the M4 as a daily in comparison.
See the Megane needed working in comparison to a Golf R and that's what made it so special for me. It's why I bought one and its why I really didn't know if I was doing the right thing. It's those rare times where you dig for those truffles and the Megane rewarded where a Golf R lacks. The M3 has turned out to be a peach so far so I'm happy dragging the v8 out to 8400 rpm to experience it. I'd love to drive an M4 and I bet it's great but if bet £100 I'd be glad to be back in the v8.

Young bloke in an mx5 with a pop and bang remapped mx5 tonight under the A3 bridge in Guildford. Pulled alongside and started revving it so I felt obliged to do the same... was a bit like David and goliath. Definitely put a smile on both our faces.

I am properly chuffed with the car and the positive attention it receives. It's a proper machine. Aside from the lingering worry of rod bearings I am thrilled with the car.

Speaking of rod bearings. Last oil service was maybe 1000 miles ago... at the end of 2016. So no wonder I have battery issues. Don't think the car was used much in the previous owners 2nd half of ownership since purchasing in 2014. I think as a priority I'll be having the oil changed. I might do it myself as I like tinkering but I'd also like the record in the service book for future owners.

Wife drove it tonight and she was suitably impressed and enjoyed listening to the v8 thumping away.

Ill chip in as owned an e92 dtc comp pack for 3 years

Great car 3rd best car ive ever owned and the best that could be described as semi practical

Stearing feel was better than i expected the chassis felt taut and controlled not overly heavy

The engine was the highlight for sure i put on an m performance exhaust and glad i did only shame ita not a bit louder for the driver as the sound insulation is a bit too good imo for an m car

In terms of torque its a weakness but it does not lack torque ....its just a bit wimpy compared to the forved induction cars of similar ultimate performance so i would not rule it out for that HOWEVER for uk road driving that is a limitation as you really do need to be a bit silly in terms of speed to be in its zone while am m4 is a bit for fun as a point and squirt b road weapon

Ultimately i loved the car and had no despired to swap for an m4 when i toook a test drove in that

I ended up changing for a 991.2 gts which is my no1 car its been just astonishing and a 997 gt3 is no2 in the list so you see i rate the e92 m3 highly
This is good to hear. Agree with the speed limitation, i do quite like flooring it and changing at mid revs just to listen to the V8 before it starts to buzz. But its difficult to resist an opportunity to drag out the engine to 8k. TBH I think most modern hot hatches get you into ban territory with little effort now anyways so whatever im screwed either way. The wife's mx5 is fun at low speeds with the roof down, ive been in an westfield which was also brilliant at low speeds. But the Golf R, Focus ST and especially the Megane RS were all capable of silly speeds when pressing on.

Been in london all week so not been able to drive the car. Put 25 quid in the tank tonight ready for work tomorrow but I accidentally got lost on the way home and now require another 25 quid.

Love it. I am having the sat nav, dct gts, comp pack edc and engine software updated soon. Going monthly with the warranty with the intention of keeping it running for the duration of ownership.

I think the geometry needs doing as the front left wheel seems to generate some vibration on turn in. It's not that drastic but does make me wonder what's up with it sometimes.

Hoping to wash the thing Saturday and get an idea what state it's in currently. Odd but I've not seen it in daylight much so feel as though I don't know what the car looks like.
