Question for M5 owners - I've had mine for a year now (a late 2011 non LCI model) and the oil service indicator has both a date and a mileage attached to it, seemingly demanding an annual oil service regardless of mileage.

From discussions on this and other forums people seem to say that it's condition based and roughly every 10,000 miles and nobody mentions the looming date part. For that reason I'm questioning what it's telling me!

Does yours have a date countdown for oil services or just mileage/condition based?

Mine has both too - for me however the mileage will be reached before the date and thus not really an issue.

The M5 runs CBS (Condition Based Servicing) so will alert you to when various servicing requirements are due. The countdown is not an exact science, more so to brake pad wear, but when the warnings are displayed, you should look to address that particular request.

Maybe that's the case for most owners - hence the common belief that it's condition/usage based and not timed.

I'm only doing 4k miles a year roughly, so for me it's the other way round!

Does rather bugger things up when items like spark plugs and filters etc are "every 3rd oil service". I don't think you really need new plugs every 12k miles...
