M4 coupe or convertible
Discussion
Hi all
Looking for some advice on the above- am coming out of an Aston Vantage- and considering the above or a TTRS. Aston is owned but looking to take a chunk of cash out to fund a house purchase( I’m In a lucky place , I know!).
Better new or used in your opinion?
Any good deals out there on these things on PCP- looking to put about 5k in and approx 10k per annum.
Also- any “must have” options on these cars? Driving tomorrow so looking forward to the engine- will miss the V8 howl tho!!
Thanks!!

I bought this one yesterday, can’t comment on the drive yet, but got 3.9% on it.

Having driven the M4 Convertible and the M4 Coupe and I now own a M3 Saloon (F80) my recommendation would be to get the coupe over the convertible.
I did not like the M4 Convertible a lot if I am honest, the roof mechanism is very clunky and it makes the car shudder when opening and closing additionally the car is quite heavy in Convertible format and you tend to sit on it as opposed to in it and the boot space with roof retracted is rubbish.
I am one who does not mid a few sacrifices to enjoy a bit of top-down motoring and whilst the M4 Convertible is an OK car the Coupe is a better reflection on what BMW M are good at.
My 2p anyway.

I'm in the market for a M4 convertible. I prefer the look of the Coupe but specifically want a car I can put the roof down on. Not too fussed about the extra weight as the convertible is still plenty fast enough for UK roads. I had a 2010 M Sport Convertible from new for a couple of years and had no problems with the roof. Seemed very smooth to me with no 'shudder' at all.
OP
Have just sold an M4 conv comp pack after six months of ownership. In truth it was the most disappointing performance car I have owned.
Heavy, squeaks and rattles and above all else horrible dull steering. The conpmpack is wasted on the convertible as the suspension is totally different and the seats too which are much more upright and make it hard to get in a position where you really feel part of the car. All in all I rated it a good convertible but a poor M car and frankly feel I would have been better off with a 440i.

Just a thought - wouldn't it be more cost effective to put less money into the house, use the extra cash to buy the car outright then overpay on the mortgage the same monthly amount you would pay on the PCP deal? That way you pay it down more quickly using the lower interest rate you get with a mortgage instead of the higher one you get with a PCP deal?Looking for some advice on the above- am coming out of an Aston Vantage- and considering the above or a TTRS. Of course unless you get a better rate on the car finance than you do on the mortgage... In which case ignore me!

Yep that is how I found it too. M4 Coupe or M3 Saloon much, much better.Have just sold an M4 conv comp pack after six months of ownership. In truth it was the most disappointing performance car I have owned.

Dare I say it, if the M4 Convertible had a cloth roof, I reckon it would be ace and 200KG's lighter

coupe and saloon = v good car
Theera re some very good deals to be had on pre-reg cars too at present.
Picked a vert up today with comp pack
It won’t get tracked, which is the only place you’ll use one properly, and it will be getting 19’s on it.
It sounds nice, i like the colour combo, and when the sun comes out, the missus can drop the roof.
Haven’t caned it yet, as only 40 miles on it, but it seems strong. Oh, and the seat badges light up

Only put 80 miles on it thus far, initial impressions.
It rides surprisingly well considering it’s on 20’s. Comfort/Comfort/Efficient settings make it an easy thing to trundle around in, gearchanges are remarkably smooth.
It will spend 80% of its time like this ( I’ve configured her driver profile for these settings only )
The exhaust noise in Sport/Sport+ is fantastic. Everything else is standard BMW operating procedure, which, if like me, its all you have been using for years, makes it intuitive.
Only grumble, but not really a valid one considering the 285/30’s is tyre noise, hopefully, 19’s and a different brand might solve this a touch ( MPSS on it)
Handbook recommends taking it easy for 5 k miles ! That’ll be difficult !
