The F10 M5 vs F90 M5

It's like comparing an iPhone 6 and an iPhone 7.

I really would like a new M5 but for the first time I took the reg from a used one up for £98000 on the bmw site and popped it into WeBuyanyCar. To buy it and drive from the dealers and part exchange it straight away the offer was something like £63000. Sent shudders down my back thinking what a few thousand miles would do to that trade price.

Says it all- a ‘used’ one for 98k. That’s just daft. It’s a 75k car new in my view. If you gave deep pockets and you’re not bothered taking a 30k hit in 12 months go for it.

Yea that is frightening losses, I will need a good drop in offers before jumping.

I spoke to Listers BMW this morning asking about discounts, they said BMW UK is NOT allowing any discounts at all !!!
I said Broadspeed were advertising £6K OFF they said it would drop them in hot water IF they sold at that discount.
So M5 not for me till things change.

It won't last. At this level a Panamera is a much better option in terms of overall ownership costs. And with the E63, even in standard form, developing 580ps, it's hardly slow and coming in at £74K (with a discount) something will have to give. A bit of patience is required

An E63 Wagon is the ultimate all rounder, with an engine note that is far superior. If it can be had for 25% less than the M5 it should be a no brainer

If, for whatever reason (I mean Brexit), there aren’t a lot of these made in RHD format because the demand isn’t there because the price is too high in the UK, the used price will remain relatively high when compared to E63s and Panameras of similar ages. So I wouldn’t be counting on getting a three year old car for £35k in 2021. BMW are as aware as we are that the pound is going to fall through the floor when the UK leaves the EU without a deal next year.

And yes, Mercedes and Porsche are German car makers too but their cars are much further through their lifecycle and they can offer big discounts right now which greatly affects used prices in three years’ time. I would imagine that BMW won’t offer discounts anything like those seen on the F10 until next year and by that time Brexit will have happened with the results I mentioned above.

Hope I’m very, very wrong.

So, in conclusion, if you voted for Brexit, you don’t deserve a nice foreign car.

Who said 35k in 3 years. The f90 us even more expensive in euro. In Germany. The pound has already fallen

I’ve bought 7 BMW’s, last 5 of which were ‘M’s new factory ordered since 2004 and managed between 11-23% discount on them. Nothing to do with state of economy, brexit, etc. Simply a case of thats what the buyers expect when buying a car from what is basically a finance company/bank masquerading as a car company. No different to Merecedes, Audi, etc, all just chasing volume and more pcp, customers. IMO nothing is going to change.

Was offered 8% of a new M5 today from Cooper’s..... of course this will be 10-15% in coming months with lower rate APR. You’d be a fool to believe the BS of ‘BMW uk won’t allow discounts’. What tosh.....

There are now 10 F90 for sale on BMW's website. The residuals look very low, unless that is the going rate!
