Tell me all about the M135i

If auto, listen for whining in individual gears, especially 2nd gear. Don't be fobbed off that it is turbo whistling noise.
There's lots of info about the pro's and con's of the M-Lite on BabyBmw.net, including the long-standing noisy gearbox debate.

Good luck - they're a really good GT car with loads of poke, just don't expect them to be the sharpest driving tool compared to some competitors.

They are great cars, been running one for about 2.5 years, auto 65 plate LCI with adaptive suspension.
Experienced no problems with noise from the gearbox whatsoever, currently at 16k miles. I tend to drive in Sport or Sport plus mostly as the adaptive suspension controls the body roll a bit better, they can also be lots of fun out of wet or dry corners if you have the suspension loaded up. It isn't as sharp as an M2 (long test drive as proof) but for the money there's not much difference in real performance on public roads. If you want the same feel as an M2 you could always take it to BIRDS, having said all that my next one will be an M2 Competition.

Picked one up for the Mrs in October last year, a facelift '15 car now on 71k miles. Auto, most options except for adaptive suspension.
Goes well, very practical and we've not had an issue with it at all, it's needed nothing in the 8k miles we've done beyond a tyre (bulge post pothole).
The gearbox doesn't whine, I can't hear any squeaks from the cabin and only thing I've found which could be improved are the brakes which now vibrate with pad buildup (overheated at Bedford & when doing repeated emergency stops from 140+ at bruntinghorpe on a course).

I’ve narrowed it down to a M135i after months of consideration.
Anything to check or avoid when looking?
Is the auto box any good?
Common problems?
Cheers all

I had an M135i. A great car, practical and fast. I ran mine with a TMC piggy back. Had fan unit and auto gearbox changed under warranty (all prior to TMC)
Recently chopped it in for an M2. There’s lots of great things about M135/M140’s but they’re so not an M car.
Fantastic cars if you want A modern Toyota supra.
I’ve had mine for about a year now and it feels indestructible. Many track miles, very impressed with cooling, power, handling fine and will skid with the best of them.
A completely standard engines/cooling M135i won the Bathurst 6 hour last year.
An lsd and negative camber makes it a great track car, mine did 55’s at Brands completely stock.
Lovely as a road car with adaptive suspension.
Capable 40 mpg.
I’m swapping mine for an M4 but would rather have a 1 series with the M4 running gear. M2’s are too similar for me.
The newer m140’s are even better if you have some extra cash, m135’s are ace though.

I had mine for a year. A great car if all your driving fun is derived from going fast in a straight line, and you've no interest in corners.
Slightly unfair, yes my fiancé's M135 doesn't handle as well as my exige but it's up there/better than most hot hatches. You have to drive it like a RWD car though, drive it like a FWD car and obviously you won't be driving it to its full potential Hi Everyone,
First post so please be gentle.
I had an M135i on lease (Feb 2014) with the adaptive dampers and whilst it was a little pocket rocket and great fun, I would echo some of the points made above regarding the handling, it was by no means a bad however over an undulating road it had a tendency to hop about at the rear which was a little unnerving. Probably a slightly unfair comparison but it's predecessor, an E46 M3, was extremely well planted over the same roads at a similar speed.
Overall for the money they are great little cars and if I had owned mine I would have attempted to resolve this issue and added a limited slip diff. I would recommend taking one for a test drive and try to scout out some interesting roads beforehand.

I can’t stop looking at the M140i the last couple of days. Are they a better car?
Struggling to find 135 that ticks all the boxes. But I’ve found a 140 that fits the bill.
I know I said I couldn’t afford the M140i but this is giving me a headache trying to find a car
I've had both, the M135i is a perfectly goof car but the M140i just hits the nail on the head. Very usable however incredibly fast, you probably wouldn't notice the power difference between the two, I personally think the M140i looks better than the M135i.Struggling to find 135 that ticks all the boxes.
