That's why I said 'additional unsprung weight...' smile
16kg i believe.
Also means there's way less clearance between caliper and wheel than stock brakes.

I don't think the option cost to spec them is that much, more like 2.5k... however, there is certainly a credible argument that the significant additional unsprung weight and future consumables costs they bring might not be benefits.

Do look fantastic 'though so on my list although may not be a deal breaker.
I'm toying with an M2 Comp order and the brakes are a £1,300 option. From my research they are +20mm bigger in diameter and have a bigger stiffer caliper.
For a bigger disc and caliper I think its a bargain. Also more mass mean more thermal capacity biggrin

Yesterday I popped into BMW Coventry and drove an M2 Comp. I was somewhat disappointed by the drivetrain. It had plenty of punch but lacked character especially compared to the previous generation.

What have people done to inject more character to the engine? I remember driving a 2017 M3 Comp which was infinitely better. I wouldn’t want to whip out the particulate filter during warranty.

We came away disappointed too but for a different reason - found the ride quality terrible - the rebound was just too harsh over anything but totally smooth services - almost to the degree I wondered if there was something wrong with this particular car; may try another to check but I'm used to stiffly sprung cars and this just made me feel sick....

Was this brand new? I found the same when i bought one, but a thousand miles in it had improved considerably, two thousand miles in even more so.
I then drove another brand new one, and it felt awful.
The suspension definitely improves with some use.

Yep, agree with Sideways.
The M2 though, is way better than an M3 in ride quality.

Just collected mine after I have had the front PPF'ed - very happy with the colour choice!

Very nice car. Does it have the "black' option alloys or the standard option. If its black any chance of a side view pic so i can see the cars gorgeous colour

with the black option wheels.

Was a used one, and had an M3 (F80) a couple of years ago - felt it was much worse than that - perhaps I"m getting old

We had an F80 M3 when they first came out, for 3 years.
I really found the ride stupidly harsh, the M2 is just so much better.

Keep the info coming guys please.

Short of full Ohlins' coilovers all round, what's the skinny on lowering? I see references to Eibach springs; any disbenefits with this route?

O/T (sorta) but I have a set of H+R lowering springs going spare, less than 200 miles on them (fitted them then went with Ohlins coilovers) if anyone needs them.

Mine has been being "looked after", by Dick Lovett Hungerford for the past week. It developed a slight and very annoying tapping noise like someone touching a hammer against a vice as you arrive at a bump in the road. It didn't do it all the time, but more than enough for it to be frustrating and annoying. I had started driving with the music on all the time to drown it out. Chief tech at Hungerford came out with me in it and agreed the noise was there and that it shouldn't be. The trouble is they are struggling to resolve it. There is a BMW tech sheet out in the wilderness relating to a similar noise, from the passenger side of the dash, but mine is drivers side. Currently it's undergoing surgery and is lacking its windscreen - among other things.

However ........ Dick Lovett have been very good through the whole process. I was able to drop the car off at 7am to suit me. They put me into a mini which i've been running around in and communicating with me almost daily with updates. Yes it's a difficult one to identify and resolve, but the dealer has been very good thus far, which has eased the pain somewhat. Fingers crossed I'll get it back fully sorted in the near future.

If anyone else has similar, don't take it on the chin, get it into a dealer and let them sort it, else it will get under your skin, like it did mine.
Had an issue like this with an E46 M3, drove me mad for months - turned out to be a loose rear brake pad. hope it gets sorted soon!

Why would you want to lower it? Is it for looks or function?

That's really what I was getting at. They do look good lowered but I would want to ensure function was better or at least not compromised. Roll centres, driveline geometry, suspension compliance etc.
