Also interested in the Apple screen issue... I’ve actually gone down the iPhone route and migrated from Android after being a user for years, simply to get Waze on the car, only to get the split screen now...

Niggles like that apart, they’re epic cars yes

There is a guy on bimmerpost who can provide the software to activate car play etc and seems to have a good reputation and charges $50. Seems like a good deal if you don’t already have car play activation, but if you only need full screen it’s not quite as good value!

Not sure if its been mentioned but be careful if the car is in warranty, I have been told if dealers update the a unit that has been coded outside of the dealer it can brick the unit.

I’ve also been told this.
New unit required ££££££....

Anyway...
I’ve now had my car for 18 months and 9k miles, and if I’m honest it’s taken a long time to gel with it.
Just can’t put my finger on why it’s taken so long, but for some reason tonight I actually realised I really do like it.
It’s got a few subtle mods done which I think are as far as it needs to go, so I reckon I’ll keep it a while longer.

Gratuitous pic from tonight...

I certainly won't dick about with mine for that very reason. I value the warranty too much.

Annoyingly all dealers have a different view on this, my car has coding on pretty much every unit but my dealer had no issue when replacing some of the units under warranty (thankfully unrelated to coding.

I'm now being offered a different car then I originally made a deal on...

The alternative car doesn't have a heated steering wheel as part of the comfort pack and doesn't come with Apple Carplay preperation as standard ( although I assume it can be added afterwards ) - These options are around £400, and all of the very late build m2cs seem to have them both. I'm not fussed about the steering wheel, but I do want carplay, so having it as part of the cost was ideal.

I'm just wondering how old the car they're offering me actually is if it doesn't have those options - according to the dealer there was a 'changeover' at the factory which is why the build is different.

Does anyone know anything about this changeover and when it happened ?

Afraid I can't comment on the spec changeover but I would definitely check with your dealer that Car Play can be retrofitted. There was some chat on this topic on the Facebook group and strong suggestion that it was not possible. Although it seem you can have it coded via a 3rd party, but then you lose your warranty. Worth checking twice if this is a deal breaker for you.

There was a point where the heated steering wheel was a standalone cost option, which then got bundled with the comfort pack.

I know this as my June 20 registered car was actually built 3rd Qtr 2019 and came without the heated wheel (after some 'discussion', the dealer did refund the notional cost associated with this given they had provided my with a build reference that included it).

The dealer should be able to tell you the build date easily enough; it's on their system.

Apple preparation is available through the Connected Drive store (which works well; I did exactly this), but does depend on a particular build code being present for the car - again, your dealer should be able to confirm suitability for the remote upgrade - the cost for mine was £265 plus VAT

According to this - https://www.baronsruislipbmw.co.uk/media/303757/no...

Carplay preperation requires ZNP, which is the professional nav (609) plus extras, which is all supposedly standard.

The comfort pack then adds 6NW - Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging.

The brochure does say in small print -

5 = Please note for purchases of Apple CarPlay® via the ConnectedDrive store after production, vehicles must be fitted
with 6NW.

So from that, I take it that any car with the comfort pack should be able to active it.

Kinda sucks that some have it for free and some don't !

Hmm, so yeah, the vehicle I am being offered - the build date is first week in September 2019.

I understand these then need to be shipped etc over to the UK - but 14 months seems like a fairly long time for a car to be sat around.

This would be registered on a 70 plate and sold as new - it just feels a bit odd that it's been sat around for so long.

Would you accept this if you were buying ?

Yes, for a decent discount off a factory order.
But just remember that for things like brake fluid and various other service items the clock starts ticking at build date not "in service" date - so may be worth discussing some sort of servicing into the deal?

Can't buy carplay from BMW store unless you have the enhanced bluetooth fitted, it adds a Wifi antenna that carplay needs.

I discovered this after ordering but managed to fit and code (with fullscreen) for not much money...

Well after a bit of back and forth, I've eventually gone for a different M2C from my local dealer - hopefully picking up next week.

This one already has apple car play, and the heated steering wheel - and comes with the M-sport upgraded brakes - which I guess is a good thing, but makes running winter tyres a lot more expensive!

Brilliant - enjoy!

I have the upgraded brakes - i think they make the car look even better, personally. Plus, i was at Brands yesterday and they stood up pretty well to track use with stock pads and fluid, albeit pedal went a little longer after 20 minutes or so - i suppose it is a 1.6ton car after all! 10 mins to cool down and they were back to normal.

Ben - did you get these ok and what tyre size did you end up with?

I’m currently looking for a set of winter wheels & tyres for my new M2C and these seem like a sensible solution although can’t decide if I should stick with the 10” rears.

Any pics of your set would be appreciated thumbup
Got round to swapping to the winters this morning. 18" look tiny biggrin

No Ben, it looks brilliant. It looks "motorsport" (where 18' is as large as they come) - I appreciate they're winters though which is a great move BTW, I am finding traction getting worse and worse on summers, even on a basic M2!
