M2 Competition
Discussion
Couple of questions if I may ... starting to feel that getting a 1M to my preferred spec (and price!) may be impossible so I'm looking at M2Cs:
1. what are people's thoughts on used pricing at the moment - there seem plenty in the sub £40k range - going up or down? Presume the expected end to lockdown may influence this considerably
2. are there any truly essential options? E.g. there's an orange car at a dealers (Barons Borehamwood) that appears to have no options at all (bar DCT) - would you consider that? If not why not?

FYI these were the options, I have the ones marked with an [x]:1. what are people's thoughts on used pricing at the moment - there seem plenty in the sub £40k range - going up or down? Presume the expected end to lockdown may influence this considerably

To me the perfect ish Spec although I would have probably upgraded the brakes and lost the DCT if it was a factory order.
TX.
I have the Plus pack but not the Comfort pack through choice - I didn't see the value of it at the time of buying.
If I had my time again, I probably would opt for the comfort pack as well. Mainly for the reversing camera, not that there's an issue, but once you've had cars with them, it's hard to go back to one without. Not a deal breaker for me (obviously).
I would say the Adaptive headlights/plus pack is a must though.

I'd agree with the above; I didn't pick the Comfort Pack partly because of (unfounded?) concerns around the security of comfort access and reports of phones overheating in the wireless charge dock.If I had my time again, I probably would opt for the comfort pack as well. I added the reversing camera on its own but I still can't park this car straight! I'm always at an angle and swear the rear is wider and the mirrors distort the picture but I digress...
Also, more useful perhaps is that at some stage BMW included the electrically folding mirrors + reverse dip function without having electric seats. Or at least I believe they didn't come with manual seats before a certain model year if someone can confirm.

Clearly my opinion only but when I was in the market last year I would not have bought a car without both Plus and Comfort packs...which to be fair was the majority of cars on the market. I suspect cars without both would probably be harder to sell on to the majority of buyers. 1. what are people's thoughts on used pricing at the moment - there seem plenty in the sub £40k range - going up or down? If I was you I'd simply look for the most highly specified you can get.
Plus pack and comfort pack are both a must IMO. Plenty around with both packs. If you can add the BBK then get that also.
Different people will value different things so it's best to review the options and decide what you want as a minimum before hunting for cars.

Thanks, guess I’m trying to understand from owners which are the options that really make a difference when living with the car. Take the big brakes - agree they look great but from reading this thread they add weight and consumable cost - is there a real advantage for a primarily (at least 95% +) road car? I’m not expecting to track it (speaking as someone who has modded and tracked a few cars, including upgrading the brakes to a BBK!) - or to put it another way do you notice the standard brakes are lacking in road driving?Plus pack and comfort pack are both a must IMO. Edited for dreadful spelling and to clarify a bit what I was asking

Its all personal preference really as what matters to me won't necessarily matter to you. For comparison I was coming from a well spec'd M4 Competition so when I ordered my M2C I added every optional extra excluding the increased top speed to make it feel more of a like for like change.
There's no options on the car I would lose if I had the choose apart from the lane assist function which I have always had switched off.
Now as far as the creature comforts are concerned you really need to assess what you can and cannot live without and are you prepared to compromise on certain things.
I've never had a heated steering wheel until I had this car and now I don't think I'd have a daily driver without one!
I hope you find the spec to suit your needs as it really is a fantastic car irrespective of the spec.

Yes, I can see all that, makes perfect sense - its just so hard at the moment as you can't actually see anything so was trying to get some input from owners. For comparison I was coming from a well spec'd M4 Competition so when I ordered my M2C I added every optional extra excluding the increased top speed to make it feel more of a like for like change.

Purely from reading around I think my preferred spec would be orange with plus pack and nothing else ... but that appears non-existent ,,, so it becomes a question of what to compromise on?
Regarding prices I would say that prices for M2 Comps have been dropping but quite slowly. I have spent the last six months finding the right car and purchased a 6,800 mile Orange M2 Comp from Sytner last month for £43,500. It is a manual car with every option including big brakes but no sunroof. My criteria had been manual, big brakes, no sunroof and I wasn't bothered about the rest as I want it for track days. However this one is fully loaded.
Prices have held up quite well I think because a new M2 Comp is no longer available and the new car is not yet announced.

Thanks very much - wanting a manual would have made it a much longer search I imagine, not many of them about!Prices have held up quite well I think because a new M2 Comp is no longer available and the new car is not yet announced.
As OP’s have noted majority of cars have both packs (dealers speccing for stock always seemed to have then- alongside DCT!). I factory ordered my manual with both packs- mostly for residual purposes- they add quite a bit to the residual pcp. What they give you are nice bits and pieces but I wouldn’t really miss anything they give you. BBK is a very rare option as is orange stiching (on anything any exterior colour other than sunset orange). I have a friend with the standard brakes and they are fine for normal road use but I can notice the difference with the BBK.
