I’m happy to say that yesterday I collected my M2 Competition! Not sure how in the current climate but I managed to stumble upon a very good deal for a well specified car through BMW.

Hockenhiem Silver, both packs, Apple CarPlay, speed limit display and importantly the 2NH big brake option!

I’ve done 500 miles in the last 24hours and I’m really enjoying the car. I still think the Powertrain needs a lift in character but other than that, I love it as a swift, competent, comfy daily.

Now, which exhaust……
2NH, wish I had it... sigh. Even toyed with putting an AP Racing kit on mine or going 2NH at the stealers (think it's a 2k option)
Not that bad tbf as APR would surely be approaching £5k? Or do you mean a £2k option from the factory?

I have the Milltek OPF equal length exhaust on mine.

The 2NH option was £1350, certainly towards the end of production

I would say the standard brakes are completely fit for purpose, the big brake offering is really a just because you can option that just adds weight but looks pretty cool

APs are £5k+ from memory, whereas OE CCBs are £8.5k which is pretty tempting if not totally unnecessary

In case this of any interest anyone, I passed 12 months of ownership at the weekend.

Key Facts:

Mostly used for fun on the twisties. Maybe 600miles on motorway in 12 months.

8,895 miles
20.9mpg over the year
RIS - £240 at an Indy
Oil change at 8000 miles (or 6200 miles after RIS) - £180 at an Indy
One pair of Yokohoma AD08R which lasted 3,500 fun (laugh) miles. Crap tyre don't bother - noisy and low grip. Now swapped to MPS4S - £480 fitted from BMW
Pads down a bit to 8-9mm across the car, disks fine which I think is very impressive given the car's use.

I’ve run a 68 plate M2 Comp as a company car for 3 years.
Absolutely loved it.
Tried a new M4 but it left me cold. Fast, efficient but soulless.
Decided on another M2 Comp.
Today I collected a 19 plate M2 Comp in Hockenhiem Silver, both packs, loads of carbon, the big brake kit and M-performance adjustable suspension.
Wow!
That suspension completely changes the car.
I don’t need the big brakes, the car corners like a go kart!!
Why didn’t the M2 Comp come with that suspension as standard!!??

I don't have a C, just a 2017 car so perhaps not very relevant.

I find the servicing regime shockingly cheap even at official dealers. It works out at £200 a year (£500 for a major every 2 years in alternance to a minor at £240 every 2 years with brake fluid every 2 years at £50).

I have no idea why the major service is £820 on a Comp though but perhaps the S55 requires more work. I can't see how though.

I seem to get 8k road miles including 6 track days out of the tyres, rear or front, which is OK. Double that if no track days for the rear and triple that for the fronts would be my guess.

I don't run OE brake pads but for road use I suspect they will last 30k miles at least. Discs probably every 2 pad changes, the fronts are £500.

I got 37 mpg on a 200 mile run once but overall road mpg is around 28 mpg.

It's a great daily, very comfy and not too harsh for the performance IMO but that's quite subjective.

I need talking out of one of these, I originally bought the M240 as it was around 10k cheaper and I'd always try to convince myself it wasn't too far off a proper M2 but I always had the niggling feeling in the back of my head that it just wasn't an M2. When I 'd see an M2 out in it I'd think ffs hehe

Anyhow I traded the M240 in and got a 330d which is the driving equivalent of watching countdown, not terrible when you press the quick button but it's a bit like taking your front froom for a drive, perhaps it's just me.

Anyhow I've always love the M2 and I could get one and I'd like to say it would be a life keeper car, something for my kid to pull the tarpaulin off after I'm gone and say dad loved that car. Most of that is just emotional nonsense so I thought I'd ask, with the banning of petrol cars how long do we think these things can survive, are we going to be made to feel like puppy killers in 5 years time and shamed out of our vehicles, is the availability of fuel going to be there or are these things already doomed?

I've always wanted one but I'm not silly enough to just stick my cash in a pile and set it on fire which I suppose I'm thinking could be a risk with these, also I'm nearing 50 so it's kinda my last hurrah in a fast petrol, well I hope not but you get my point.

Your last para is exactly what I did, and I’m older than you. You’re a long time dead and I see no point being the wealthiest guy in the graveyard.

If you want one, get one, you can always get out of it easily enough. I had an M2C for a year, great car, I just didn't gel with it like I have others so I punted it for minimal ownership cost.

The change of tide towards EV will take years, and many years after the ICE engine ban (which is only pure ICE, hybrids will become the new sports car) for us to worry about fuel, bare in mind many countries have no intention to ditch conventional fuels, not least those that happen to produce a lot of oil, so it will be around for a while yet.

Just sold mine this morning to a dealer.
Possibly one of the least depreciating cars I’ve had in 35 years.
But, that’s really just because second hand prices are stark raving bonkers at the moment…

Possibly a Stelvio QV.

Nothing wrong with the M2, but my needs have changed and need a tad more room.
So I’m doing the sensible thing and buying a bland SUV…

I will be driving mine for as long as I want including well past 2030. I will not feel "bad" about it either! Porsche etc working on synthetic fuel so it may even become ok to drive ICE again, who knows!

Made a reasonable profit on mine bought January this year. Kept it for around 4000 miles but ultimately didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to.

I did the same. It is a good car but I feel the chassis is compromised .. especially in these months , I had the litcho Nitrons put on which improved the handling but even then the handling didn’t massively blow me away and I felt the car was quite nervous on the edge. Happy to have got out of it after a year at no expense.

I am currently on the hunt for an M2C, specifically one in orange with a manual box. No private examples for sale currently but going by other colours 40/41k seems to be about what I’d need to pay.

Out of interest, how much lower did prices on these did pre-covid? I have seen quite a bit of talk about ‘inflated prices’.
