Is yours a Competition Pack car ?

I'm sorely tempted to change from my '63 plate F30 330D Msport auto into a £45k (ish) Competition Pack F80 M3. Your thoughts on the M3's civility (some appear to be saying that the ride is a bit on the firm side) it's alleged lairy behaviour and general day to day usability on a mixture of roads, A,B M/Ways etc, would be much appreciated smile
No it's standard car, the CP is firmer than the standard car, I have no issues with the standard car on 19" with the MP lowered spring kit, the car is as lairy or as docile you want it to be and I find it suitable for all roads and I find it as useable as any BMW I've had.

But it's a very direct car when you turn everything up but that's what it's meant to be, what it isn't is a 330d with another 180-200hp.

With regards to the servicing why is there such a range of costs for servicing, someone said almost £900, whats the average?
Every 36k (ish) you need new spark plugs and the labour to change them costs a lot as they have to remove the intercooler to get to them, so it's oil service £300 then sparkplug service £900....rinse and repeat.

I've has 5 services over 82k at a approx. cost of £2600

Well done for using it as intended. Too many m cars aren’t used properly. Certainly my e46 laterly became a weekend car, just the way it was. You’ve done more miles in yours than mine had when I sold it!

As for insurance being voided if you fit runflats to a car normally equipped with non-runflats, it's an internet myth.
As long as the tyres are legal from a tread depth, construction, integrity and speed rating perspective, you're insured.
No Myth on proper "M" cars, sure you can fit run flats to normal cars but NOT "M" cars.

For the sake of clarity ; I'm not suggesting I would fit runflats to an M car (I wouldn't), but you could, and your insurers wouldn't bat an eyelid come claim time as long as the tyres are legal from a speed rating and tread depth perspective.

Just watched a video of he F80 M3 vs all be other generation M3’s (youtube Carwow) a drag race.

The current M3 utterly demolishes the others a 12.2 quarter mile time (e30 M3 Roberto R version took 17.0 seconds).

I had a ‘63 plate 330d M-Sport before switching to an M4 CP. What I would say is they’re so different as to be completely incomparable.

The F8X is much harder than the F30, even one on runflats, and much noisier. It stands to reason that it’s going to be the case when you consider things like the solidly mounted rear subframe (like the E92 GTS had) and generally much heftier suspension and drivetrain, plus a lack of soundproofing, etc.

My dad has an F31 320i which I’ve driven a few times recently - including today - and I commented to him how quiet and smooth that feels. I honestly much prefer driving the M4 - even on long motorway trips - but they really are a completely different beast to the non-M cars.

Not driven a 330d but can say for certain that M3 will have slightly firmer ride. I can’t say it’s particularly lairy unless you are driving like a nob in the wet (you can drive aggressively in the dry and there will be no issues with good tyres - obviously you will see TC light flicker but I assume you will get that with a 330d as well).

In all honesty my missus does 50% of the miles in the M3 with the baby in the back (we share the Golf and M3 50-50) and she’s never complained it’s aggressive or lairy.

Reading with interest as i’m More tempted to consolidate my Volvo C30 and Birds equipped 135i into an M4 for daily commutes of 50-100 miles per day.

Looking at M235i to then do birds conversion on too.

£33k for 65 plate M4 vs £20k + £4k

I had an M140 before the M3 and the difference in the drive is night and day. Get the M4.

But ongoing depreciation will be materially lower on your current stable vs a new steed.
