Hi,
I will see an M4 tomorrow, at a dealer that offers 6 months warranty, but you know how these things are..

Is there anything specifically to look for? I know there were some issues with the turbo gasket, so will check oil level and white smoke.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thank you!

Turbo oil seals aren’t the most robust - maybe what you’re referring to in your post?

Other than that they’re pretty much ok, generally.

Consumables such as brakes can seem pretty expensive - well over £2k at dealer prices - but it’s a £60-£70k+ car so it’s to be expected.

If there’s any BMW warranty left at all you have a chance of extending it. It’s not cheap but it offers the same cover as the first 3 years. I would do it if there’s an opportunity, purely because a 6-month used car dealer warranty is probably not worth the paper it’s printed on - just my opinion.

Maybe pop over to M3Cutters forum for some more knowledgeable input.

No cars in your budget at a main BMW dealer?
At least they come with a full 1 years warranty not some 6 month mickey mouse third party nonsense.
Myself, I wouldn't touch a car outside the main dealer network.

The AUC scheme doesn't mean you'll get a good car, just that if it has issues you're more likely to get them sorted properly. We had to reject a 6 mth old M4CP a few mths ago. Car had literally just been washed and put on the forecourt assuming it had no issues. After having most of the suspension and rack changed they finally agreed the car had serious issues and refunded us in fall. Although originally they wanted to 'buy' the car back off us at £8k less than we paid - 12 weeks earlier. Had been with them for about 10 of those weeks!

That can happen to any used car from any dealer....but imagine how much harder rejecting the car might have been from a non BMW dealer.

Exactly my point. Anything over say £30k+ I'd always go main dealer unless it was a very special car

I bought my M6GC from a non-Franchised dealer (over £40K) and my previous M6 V10 privately and on each have bought separately the La Mondiale BMW Warranty which in my experience has been excellent when problems have arisen. As was said above buying an AUC is no guarantee of a good one you have to rely on your nose and a bit of luck on all used car purchases. If you're minted then go via the main dealer but if you want a keener deal don't be scared to look outside the network - i kept about £5K in my pocket through better pricing and keener PX value on the GC, it had just been end of warranty checked by Sytner anyway. First years warranty cost was c£1,300 (with emergency service added and £250 XS) I expect it will be cheaper at renewal as it is no longer outside the network !
