I’ve got a BMW 1 Series M Sport (2010) and I cannot find anywhere on the car to get the mirrors to go in?!

There’s no button on the side of the door and I’ve tried holding down the lock button on the key fob but it doesn’t work, it just keeps clicking as it is already locked. Someone said about coding the key fob to get it to close?

What do I do?! I’m sure it goes in as I can see the mirrors can turn in. I’m worried it’ll get broken off if I don’t push them in because you know what some drivers are like...!

Thanks in advance

Does your car definitely have the option? There are websites where you can discover what options it has based on its VIN

As above

https://www.etkbmw.com/bmw/EN/vin/decoder/online

Put the last 7 digits of your cars VIN into the above decoder & see if you’ve powerfold mirrors

Imo, if you’ve no button for them on the drivers door switch pack, you haven’t got them sinstalled

Thanks. Where do I find the VIN?

I think they don’t have electronic mirrors... am I able to push them in and out manually if not?

Will be in the bottom right of the windscreen, stamped onto components in the engine bay, and also on the stickers inside the door. BMW VINs typically start with WBA.

Can push the mirrors in and out manually if you don't have the automatic folding.

I don’t think you’ve got folding mirrors. An option on nearly every model.

The button for folding mirrors should be on the drivers side armrest above the window controls (below the mirror adjustment). If it's not there then they're not fitted.

As others have said, if you don't have the button next to the mirror adjust, you don't have auto fold. You will however be able to push them in manually. Takes more of a push than you may first think and it may feel you'll break them, but you won't. Just fold them in

This is for a mini, but same idea

Thanks for your replies. It doesn’t have the auto fold in, so I have to push them in manually! Quite a force but it is fine.

They've always been an option on most BMWs - I'm on BMW Number 6 and only 1 had the power-fold mirror option!

Of the cars I have owned only one has had electric mirrors. And only one has had a mirror broken, and it was the car with the auto mirrors.

Go figure.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a diy guide to retro fit folding mirrors.

Do you mean electrically adjustable, or electric folding?

It can be done, but you need to buy new mirrors (and paint to match), a new control panel for the door (which aren't easy to find unless you want to get fleeced by BMW), plus wiring (and if you haven't got power/memory seats it gets more complicated still).
