Perhaps if it were possible to build a modern M in the style of the original homologation specials?

So something that looks and drives like a track car tweaked to be road legal.

I’m guessing it would be possible using genuine bits from the Motorsport and M Performance parts catalogues for the current M2/M3/M4.

I'd love to see a 'Singer' equivalent of an E24, with the S54 from a E46 CSL.

E46 M3 CSL with the 4.4 engine and DCT ‘box from the E92 M3 GTS. AP brakes all round and Ohlins TTX’s. Job jobbed.

If there was a company like Singer that existed for BMW M cars, what would you commission?

I'd dearly love the funds to have an LCI E60 M5 in interlagos blue, fitted with a DCT 'box and modernised EDC cloud9
The V10 with DCT with all working computers in the car will be a reality soon.....

Apparently there is a dct kit going to be available in the UK for the S85. Under £2k I am led to believe. You'll need to buy the box etc still though.
More info?
its going to be more than 2k.

Elise Racing will be bringing out the Syvecs with DCT & V10 & another company will be doing the canbus side of the DCT shortly to offer plug and plag solution.

2k would get you a TCU that can control the gearbox only

Had heard of the Elise Racing box but that is going to be something like 5000 pounds.

As for the thread topic, I´m in the middle of building an E30 M3 with S85 & DCT.

It´s a track car so it´s stripped, caged, dry sumped, etc.

For me it´s the greatest BMW body, the greatest (attainable) NA BMW engine with the best gearbox.

With an open exhaust and remap I´m aiming for 560hp.

Is that an external dry sump pump?

And you weren't tempted by something like a Quaife sequential gearbox?

S50B32 ( cable throttle thumbup ), Schrick cams with carbon airbox and & Eissenman race exhaust. ………..installed in a 944S2, 944 Turbo or 968 chassis with KW3 coilovers and a Quaife LSD.

I'd want a 6 speed box and cruise control, plus Apple Carplay on my E28 M5.

just added apple car play to my e39 M5 - fantastic difference - makes the car feel so much more modern
can't think of much else I would want to do to it - it has the AP Racing brakes on the front already / the exhaust could be louder, but is a good stainless steel one, so no point upgrading... engine is more than powerful enough - and having driven cars like the DB11 / e63s with a lot more power, I don't feel a need to push the power up... so pretty much the perfect car now that the radio has wireless Car Play - I have a wireless charger sitting in the cubby in front of the gearstick and we may look at building that under the trim - otherwise, will keep it as is...

What I wouldn't want is an E30 M3 with a turbo and a quarter million price tag!

An M1 with an S62 would be an awesome thing, although just an S54 with some hotter cams and 400+ brake would do.

Whatever the options I'd want high revving and NA.

An E30 with a V8 or V10 is a popular choice and I can see why, however to me a restomod doesn't have to be fitting the biggest/newest engine you can get in so personally I would think the S54 + 6 speed combined with an updated interior, air con, coilovers, big brakes would be perfect.

I'd also need a E46 M3 with a S65 V8 , a E28 5 with the S85 V10 engine and just for giggles a E34 (touring) with a S38 Turbo conversion would make a tidy little fleet.

My pal built a beautiful E28 with an s54 and modern coilovers, BBK etc. It was simply gorgeous and just like a hotter M5 really. I'd love to build an E12 to the same spec.

lick

Super choices, I'd overlooked the E12 5er, having given it some more thought a E12 ALPINA B7 Turbo with the current ALPINA B5 BI-Turbo 4.4V8 drive train would be sensational.

A very interesting question, especially given the threat of mandatory speed-limiters on new cars from 2022(?).

When I look at all the current M cars, the only temptations come from improvements to on-board systems, and braking.

So, in essence I am still very happy with my E92M3 (Comp Pack, manual....1 of 22 blah blah) but I would like to engineer in the following:

1. Lightweight multi-piston calipers (F/R), allied to CC discs. Not so much for improved braking performance, but for dramatically reduced un-sprung weight.
2. Carbon fibre wheels - but still in the style of the Comp Pack wheels - same reason as above
3. Improved graphics and info via I-drive. Already possible through aftermarket kit. I would add proper tyre pressure/temperature monitoring, and the 360 camera capability, plus reversing camera option. All easily achievable. Apple CarPlay and Google equivalent don’t really worry me
4. Possibly change 6th gear ratio, or the final drive, to improve high-ish speed consumption, as the overall gearing is needlessly low.
5. Add active cruise control, for all the bloody average speed zones infesting the M-way network.
6. Address the appallingly bad corrosion protection around the rear axle zone. Time for a trip to Redish Motorsport....
7. Laser headlights?

Other than that......I am boringly happy with it.
1, 3, 6.....all pretty easily achievable.

All being well, am going back to the 70's with a 1600-2 in a few weeks. It may be nearly 50 years old but it'll be getting used most days and suspension and brakes will be updated/rated.

An M1 with A/C that actually works and some light PAS for manoeuvring. Engine, gearbox and running gear are perfect as is.
