I have always been far more concerned about the service department's admin staff than anyone seeing my reg and getting my address through semi legitimate means.

It’s not like anyone sees it when we are driving around all day in it confused

I don’t get it personally.

I hope no one on here was joining the M42 Jn 3 eastbound yesterday around 4.30pm in a Blue M5C 22 plate, as they entered a busy motorway at great speed accelerating straight in to lane 3 causing me to brake. They then went on to tailgate/intimidate other drivers, then undertake, again at great speed, all to achieve a 100m gain. And so it continued as they travelled down the M40. Lots of brake lights.

I’m going to dig out the footage on the dash cam today just to see if it was as bad as I remember.

Re number plate showing.
I doubt its much of a problem...but a regular Joe can get a cars details from the DVLA if they have reasonable grounds.
And there is the small risk of the plate being cloned to a stolen M5.
But they are all very small risks.
I hide my cars plates if showing online only as a matter of habit.

Whats the general opinion on displaying cars number plates on an open forum?
I wouldn't do it myself although I don't have a real reason for that, just personal choice.

Presumably it would only be a member of the police or a DVLA employee that could use it to identify the owner's address?
Number plate cloners google searching for "grey M5"?

TX.

Many years ago I was selling a performance car privately. One caller who seemed legitimate asked for the plate details to perform a HPI check. He also asked if I would meet him half way distance wise to complete the deal. A few days later the police visited me to ask where my car was. It was in the garage. They said an armed robbery have been undertaken with an identical car on my plate. They also added that if I had met this person they would have taken the car whatever precautions I might have taken.

I doubt they do on a regular basis.
But cloned plates are handy to avoid speeding/parking/bus lane/congestion zone tickets especially in London

So having owned an M5C for almost a week these are my early observations beyond the mind boggling performance:

- The economy isn't quite as bad as I was anticipating. Granted I am not constantly thrashing it but seems to do nearly 400 miles on a tank
- Love the radar guided cruise control. A god send in average speed camera sections on motorways
- The suspension is a little fidgety if you are cruising on poorly maintained UK roads
- The HK sound system is superb

Is the M sport exhaust on the base M5 same as the one on M5 comp? I see most of the base M5 have this option just wondering if it sounds the same as a M5 comp - or still different due to software etc?

The way I see it is how I approach most things... If you don't *need* to share the info online - don't. Yes the risk is low, but so is the effort to remove the reg.

The economy is pretty impressive given the performance.
My lifetime OBC average is currently 22.4 at 28,000 miles up from 18 when it was newish.
Better than my two E92 M3s and my F82 M4 who were all in the 18s for identical driving.
Wish I had active cruise.
Agree on the suspension...if the roads are smooth though and you can use Sport+ suspension the car is scarily fast in the twisties.
Best tip from me is to stick to comfort steering for all driving except motorways where Sport setting is better at keeping the car in a straight line.

400 miles on a tank?? That's a lot better than me but unfortunately my daily commute is all start stop traffic.
I haven't managed to figure out the radar cruise control yet, I'll get that done this week.

The thrust is very good but to be fair I was expecting that. What I wasn't expecting is how agile it is, yes there's no denying it's huge size but it changes direction and corners amazingly.

The M5C is the most competent all round car I ever owned, and every couple of days I am tempted by buying one again.

Though, I only managed an average of 19.2mpg in my time. Which is about 3 mpg worse than my 5.0SC FFRR!

I think the HK system has excellent clarity but lacks drive.

I agree that the F90C is the most complete all-round car I have ever driven as well.
However, you'll soon get sick of that radar cruise control when you keep going backwards in speed camera zones or doing 70 on the motorway. wink

On the plus side for active cruise...if you fall asleep or have a heart attack you won't drive into the back of anyone.

One other thing - the glovebox is pretty useless. oddly shaped and you cant fit a lot in there.

Yes indeed, as is the door storage compartment, I can't actually get me hand into most of it! Dropped my keys in there and couldn't get them out whilst seated in the car.
The glove box I sort of get because the air freshner thing takes up space but the door storage I don't understand at all.

Well that's really useful. Shame that most of the time it's just a major hindrance wink

Heh I don't have it in my car...but my wifes Nissan does.
I like it in heavy traffic on the motorway...wack it on in the outside lane and relax.

Leaves a nice big gap for anyone to move into and you just go backwards. It's only use is in an actual traffic jam. Maybe the Nissan is different, or maybe you just like to go backwards? Good luck biglaugh
