I’m with LV also paying about £1200 for my F10 with 3 or 6 points (can’t remember exactly).

Expecting to get shafted in renewal as they have just paid out for a stolen golf R on the same (multi car) policy.
Best get some KY, you'll need it.;)

I collected my M5 Competition on Friday and, 3 days later, am 650 miles into the running in period.

What a car. It replaces my 2014 Singapore grey LCI F10 M5 which I'd owned since new. The step up in cabin quality is very noticeable, so too how stiff the car is - it reminds me of my 911.

Very impressed so far.

Nice! Not normally a fan of grey but that really suits the M5.

Congrats HoHoHo, I think that's a decent deal. Who cares if a better could have been done, sometimes it's not always about the absolute cheapest but if you've got a relationship with a dealer and they give you great service then that is often worth a small premium.

Good to see some of the old guard buying these as we might see more discussion.

As for the insurance costs, wow some of those prices are outrageous and then some unusually cheap. For comparison, I pay about £750;

40 years old
Max NCB
3 points SP30
32 year old wife is the main named driver (strictly speaking it's her car)
LE postcode (North Leicestershire)

The RS6 we had before was one of the most expensive cars I've ever insured - it was at least 50% more than the M5!

Now I'm sure you're all fed up of hearing about my vibrations but I had BMW Nottingham fit a new set of Michelin Pilot 4S yesterday. Ironically, the Michelin tyre seems to let through more general feedback / road 'noise' than the Pirelli's but it no longer has that speed related tickle that came through the steering wheel. So I think I can declare that although I am over a grand lighter, I no longer have a wheel balance issue.

It's not just the M5....I'm just not having much luck with tyres at the moment. When I bought my R8 it came with the 19" wheels which I promptly upgraded to a second hand set of 20's. This meant I also had to get new tyres so I bought a set of the RO1 marked P-Zero's from MyTyres, by far the cheapest place. Had them fitted by the Pirelli Performance Centre in Burton. They've not felt great so I subsequently took it to Nottingham Audi as they've got a pukka road force balancer and have proven they can balance wheels properly. They confirmed all four wheels were perfectly true, but I was not expecting to be shown that of my four new tyres, one had a cut down to the carcass on the inside sidewall, two were made in 2015, the other two in 2016 (so all tyres a good 2-3 years older than the 2018 car!) and they all failed the sidewall pressure test that the road force balancer uses.

So basically they're f*cked....not sure what recourse I have with MyTyres as having had them fitted and driven about 500 miles since, I can't prove the cut was there originally and its not actually illegal to sell old tyres. Still, they'll be getting a complaint and request to return them.

My (expensive) learning here is that buying cheap online tyres carries a degree of risk and I should definitely check the dates (and the tyres) more thoroughly! I think in future I'll stick to buying from dealers or reputable tyre fitters!

Fingers crossed for you. It does feel more 'alive' on the Michelins and they tend to wear better. But the tyre guy at my dealer said he's seeing more and more BMW's coming with Pirelli's, and agreed it's probably cost related.

Picked mine up on Thursday (marina bay with Silverstone int) and that is on the Pirelli's. Was also hoping for the Michelins. I'll live with them as they are until they need changing and then switch.

I'd have done the same to be honest, but with one tyre out of round and needing replacing and the rears half worn (after 5k miles!) I just decided to bite the bullet and buy a set of Michelins.

I know it’s O/T but how come you got rid of the crazy optioned blue GTS?

Careful timing, I got a very good trade in against this M5 just at the time the 992 was announced.

I’d say that was one of my better judged decisions as it’s still for sale now, for less than I traded it in for. Not quite as good as the Turbo S I had immediately before it as that made a modest profit. Porsche’s are bloody great for low cost motoring....if you get the sweet spot of timing, spec and miles right.

Picking it up Friday - what a great Birthday present!

New questions slightly off topic.....

I have ALA Gap and Tyre on my X5 which are both worthwhile in my books, I’ll go with ALA for Gap but they don’t offer tyre insurance currently, any recommendations?

Also, how much should I expect to pay for the running in service? On my F10 it was free but I have a figure of £350 in my mind, is it still around the same?

Do you put V-Power or similar in the car or normal unleaded? In the F10 I didn’t bother with V-Power.....thoughts?

I've not sorted GAP yet but I will. Dealer tried to get me to buy from them, offered to discount to £600 and told me it was return to vehicle cover (it was clearly return to invoice) which was a blatant lie and told me other providers "wont be as good as theirs" and the companies you can buy from on the internet are "based above kebab shops, do you really want them insuring you?". Illegal pressure selling much? This wasn't the sales guy who was very good.

I wasn't sure wether to get the serivce apck and struggled finding prices for servicing. I did manage to get a price a couple of weeks ago by outting in the number plate of a car off the BMW AU website into the BMW servicing website. It returned a price circa £750 for running in. This tipped my decision in favour of getting th service pack. I've just tried it again and now cant get a price.

On petrol I will only use super unleaded as a minimum and whenever possible V-Power for the "better" fuel and higher octane. With my F10 M5 I mostly used BP SUPER and it ran perfectly.

I will be using ALA @ £209.00 for £40K cover that is with 25% discount.
I always have used 97 Sainsbury fuel, never had a problem, Shell total wast of money with NO gains (been there) Tesco 99 is a mixed bag for me, some fuel been good other tank fulls ste, so I don't do Tesco.

For what period of time does that cover?
I've done a quote on ALA website for invoice plus cover and it comes out at £508 for 4 years and £40k cover.

I wanted to get vehicle replacement cover but ALA don't seem to do it, you can only enter a vehicle value of less than £50k on their quote form. Maybe i'm being stupid and not understanding it.

Hi guys, had my M5, not competition, for a few months now and love it. Singapore grey with premium and comfort pack, Silverstone leather, B&W sound and some other bits.

Only a couple of things which I don't know if anyone else has noticed?

1. The steering wheel adjustment doesn't go very low, even at its lowest setting its a bit high, only a small amount but enough for me not to be able to get my ideal driving position.
2. The driver profile settings dont include head up display on/off. A bit annoying when my wife wants it on and I want it off.
3. The driver profiles/keys seem to get confused quite often and forget who wants the seats where, very annoying when it takes me weeks to get the seat perfect then the next time I select my profile its all wrong!

apart from that I absolutely love it and its the first car ive had where I've felt it doesn't need anything changing, it just looks and drives perfectly. Just need to sell my M2 to pay for half of it! If anyone fancies an immaculate manual M2 with 4k miles let me know!

Nice car enjoy, not hd the problems you've had though, I always use the seat memory buttons just in case, as for the steering no problems either.
The profile keys seem to work. I have downloaded my profile to put into the new M5 CP coming next week, lets see what a mess that could make lol.

Interesting points, fortunately my wife has no interest in driving any of my cars..............and I'm happy with that laugh

I love that colour (my final choice this week was a Singapore Grey CP with some bits or my car in Donningont absolutely fully loaded) however I decided against the SG. We live in a rural area in West Sussex and the amount of crap and stones on the roads absolutely pepper the paintwork all over the wheel arches with little tiny chips etc. I know I could get it PPF'd but they are not huge, just annoying.

My Space Grey X5 is a classic example after 2.5 years and to the bystander it looks great, to me it's not............Hence a lighter colour that hopefully won't show all the marks.

Singapore Grey still looks bloody fantastic cloud9
