Too high...I would start at no more than £70K.
Saying that you really want the car but its just outside your budget.
It lowers the dealers expectations and gives you room to offer more if they come back with a counter offer.
In any case don't rush back with any replies...you want to be enthusiastic but sad that its outside your budget.
You can raise your offer slightly with something like...I guess I could go £71K at the death...or £72K whatever.
Dealers don't care that much about end of month or end of quarter sales numbers for used cars..there are no manufacturers bonuses for used cars...the used car dept usually has a £ profit target rather than sales number targets.

Hello all,

Looking at getting into an M5 Competition but am struggling a little to choose between the various cars for sale. Based on in Belgium so the price points differ somewhat to the UK market but would appreciate your thoughts / input nonetheless.

Pros
- BRG with tartufo interior. Best colour combo in my eyes so is a massive plus.
- B&W stereo
- Lowest price point compared to the others (and likely negotiable given mileage)

Cons
- Sunroof means no carbon which is not a huge minus for me but I assume may affect resale value?
- 48K km feels a touch on the high side for a late 2021 car - something to be concerned about? Car has full history apparently but has clearly been used extensively.
- No CCB - not sure this is a big minus day to day but the CCB brakes are invariably cool

- Black interior is a little boring IMO

- Nice interior colour

After having looked at cars 1 and 3 (not had a chance to see 2 in the flesh yet), #1 really gets my 'want' factor going based on the colour combination alone. The interior spec is also pretty extensive and includes the B&W stereo which appears to be highly coveted. My brain is otherwise saying that the colour combination (even though I like it) and lack of carbon roof and CCB may make it less attractive at resale down the line. Mileage is nothing in the grand scheme of things but it is significantly higher than the others. Whilst I used to always purchase cars based on condition and service history (as opposed to mileage) I know from experience that the vast majority of people focus on mileage alone.

What would you do?

Hi Lantz,

I am also Belgium based, and had my eye out for your second car. It is very low mileage, full leather, and interesting BRG colour.

Your first one is too high mileage for the price (it should be low 90s).

Couple of thoughts.

I had tartufo. Its my favourite colour of the options, but it's a bit orange in real life. Wouldn't be a must again. Silverstone, or midrand are fine.

I had a carbon roof and is a must for me - but the sunroof ones reverberate sound less, so the cabin is supposedly a bit quieter.

I had H+K which I find lacking bass and depth - though good clarity. BW is a must for me on my next one.

Mileage does not worry me on these as its very easy to wrack up motorway miles in Europe.

For car number 2: It also misses the laser lights, which I think is a must. Not sure what their margin on price is, I contacted them with a view to a swap with my 2500 km M3 Touring, and they were not interested.

I had B&W in my F90 M5, and it sounded great but more importantly made the cabin more special. Mine had a sun-roof and I would much have preferred the carbon roof, the "U" profile in the carbon roof is lost with the sun roof.

I would say full leather is a must, it makes the cabin much more special.

Whilst the M5 CS is pretty cool, I think it would be too hardcore for me personally as I intend to use the car for more leisurely use. I never quite understood the idea of a stripped out 5-series - at the end of the day it's still a big 5-series and there seem to be far better track oriented cars at that price point. An e46 M3 CSL makes sense whereas an M5 'equivalent' sort of goes against the classic M5 ethos i.e., a very fast all rounder.

I would always go for the newest car with the lowest mileage.
Dark interior
Not to dark exterior
Wouldn't bother whether it had CCB or not.
Neither B&W...H/K is fine..its hardly a great environment for hifi sound once moving.

Would go for the 2nd car - newest, low miles, good colour and spec - pity it's missing the laser lights and BW audio upgrade, but otherwise looks perfect (i could live without both however). super nice silver wheels go well with the BRG paint and gold CCB calipers.

Just found this thread whilst googling something mentioned here some time ago, low coolant warning. Had the message on the dash on very cold mornings but going away again later in the day. It then appeared on a warmer day and when checked was indeed low, I have topped it up but is using coolant a 'feature' on these as previously mentioned in the thread?

I picked up my 2019 M5 Comp back in August after slumming it in an L405 Range Rover (supercharged) Autobiography, a mate mentioned an M5 might be what I was looking for with the features I was used to in the Range Rover. Went to view a local M5 Comp just to see what they are like and ended up buying it, rather surprised myself with that.

So far, I love it!

Donington grey, I believe Pre-LCI but has the later full screen dash not the dials.

Congrats on the new car it looks lovely.
I had the low coolant warning, I eventually persuaded my local main dealer to replace my header tank and sensors under warranty - the plastic tanks can get micro fractures which can allow some coolant loss and coolant warnings. I think there may have been some BMW bulletin to dealers about this but you’ll have to probably push for replacement if you have a warranty.
