I'm now up to 6.5k miles in ours (bought in December with 1k on the clock) and, despite the fact I wax lyrically about our previous RS6 and my other car is an R8, this M5 CP really stacks up very well. It is bloody superb.

The things that stand out most are the agility, the directness of the steering (the single most improved aspect versus the previous model) and the general tightness of body control.

What I don't like at all is the apparent inability to switch the f*cking thing off! It only turns off when all the doors of the occupied seats are opened which is just hugely irritating. Am I missing something here? Anyone know if the start stop button can be coded to work like previous models (two pushes to turn off)?
I find the switching off a bit odd too......

Press the button and f-all happens but it does (sometimes) switch off when I open the door.

Sometimes however it doesn’t and I hear music in my car as I walk towards to house.....

Previous BMW’s are switch off, iDrive dies and I open the door, not in my M5 smile

I would also add that I can figure out the turning off thing either. Does one thing one time then something else others..... I was hoping their was a knack I hadn’t figured out yet!

I'm sure someone thought it would be handy....

Mine switches off when I press the start button? I then open the door and get out (engine is off before I open the door).

TX.

Edit - I have that optional "funny" key though, perhaps that makes a difference?

2nd edit - apologies I mean engine off and perhaps you mean that the screen doesn't die at that stage. Mine the same but no biggie surely as when you get out the screen dies.

Yep, that’s what mine is like....unless the passenger seat (or any other seat) is occupied. It then only turns off when the door next to the occupied seat is opened.

And god forbid you ever open the front door before turning the engine off because it’ll then only turn off if you close and open the door again (unless there’s a passenger in the car then it’s impossible to turn it off), or lock it.

It’s a maddening solution to a problem that never existed. Just turn the bloody hell off when I push the stop button!

It’s a keeper is this one....I’ll get at least six months out of it tongue out

Problem is, it’s the wife’s car and she’s taken to it a lot more than she did the RS6. Bah, what does she know rolleyes

Anyway, I’m managing to keep myself entertained....my R8 gets replaced by a McLaren on Friday. Very excited biggrin

I am 660 miles into mine and loving it. I came from a Range Rover Sport and the quality of materials does feel a step down from there but the tech is much better and of course the handling. My wife and one of my daughters tends to suffer from car sickness in cars that are too smooth so the M5C is great for them as it is a bit bumpy sometimes but to me it adds to the fun and on the motorway it was nice and smooth. The engine is epic even in run in mode, the exhaust on Sports + is about perfect with its rumbles (certainly better than my M3 and a nicer sound than the RRS V8). The fuel economy seems to go from high 20s to mid 30s when cruising along to mid teens when pushing a bit, it certainly seems much more susceptible to a heavy foot than the RRS did which rarely moved from high teens to mid twenties. Space in the back is fine for three kids (15, 13 and &) particularly now the little one is out of a booster. The gesture control for the hifi is hilariously bad! As people have said above, the one thing that drives me to distraction is not being to turn the thing off without opening the door!

It's great to find this thread with some M5C owners. I've had my frozen MBB for about 5 months in Australia. I'm loving the car but getting the crankshaft sensor replaced in the next few days due to intermittent stalling problem with Auto Stop/Start. Anyone else had this problem?
I'm having this problem, 4 times in the last 3 days. Just stalls whilst stationary, which can be a real pain when you try and pull away to find you're in neutral and the engine is off!

I got my crankshaft sensor replaced last week and the problem is gone. Happy days! See your dealer - it’s a known problem and proven fix.

V interested in the comments above regarding car sickness - not sure if this applies to my kids, as this is normally induced via acceleration &/or cornering G !

Can anyone confirm where or how you can see the cars that are available in the UK dealer network, or is this by just peering over the dealers shoulder when they check availability?

One can do it to check Mercedes New Car Stock that's ready in UK ports and in the UK network, but not with BMWs.

I'd be keen to hear from anyone who can check BMW UK new stock.

Dealers can see the stock available in the UK it'll be a case of going in and sitting down with the salesman.

About £700 but I’m going for the £999 service inclusive so for me it makes sense as I’ll get three services for that cost and as much oil as I can drink wink

I did ask three dealers to quote and they’re all much the same in the SE. I’m pretty sure my F10 M5 was £350 (albeit I got that thrown in for free)

Yep and is unfortunate.

I want to sit on my sofa at home and have a look / see of what's currently available, as I can with MB, which is very cool.
