Thats a safe bet.
You think? I think it’s looking unlikely but who knows what will happen next year

DONT GO IN FOR THE RECALL!!!! It’s a scam for ze Germans to take the crackle and pop map of your car!!! Just been scammed myself and am devastated with my m5comp now, sounds like a diesel with no character I’m trying to get advice on legal action as I was not asked my permission to remove the map and the sound was instrumental in me making a decision to buy the car, so I’ve been mis sold just like diesel gate

Tuned they can suffer from bent pistons (high torque cars), standard I haven't heard of any issues either. Mine is on 18k miles no issues.

TX.
The bent rods are not from the torque. Bent rods are caused from the ever present excessive rod bearing wear (and not only bearings), that has it's origin on the oil that for one might be too ste as in, not viscous enough to stick to metal overnight, not hold the crazy temps these cars run, remember most cars run on the 90c on water and oil, modern M cars run 100-105c as operating temperatures.

Then add the stupid high oil service intervals, perfect recipe to a shagged engine.
In reality these lumps are actually pretty good.
Just search for a proper 5w40 BMW approved oil, specificly search for high temperature (++100c) sheer rates, and change it on the 6-7k miles MAX.
Xcess 8100 range is great as is Redline, especially the 5w50 that matches 5w40 flow on cold-warmup and is quite a lot better at high temperatures.

This will save a lot of headache, plus anyone can do it by themselves if not in the mood to bring it to service and pay BMW hourly rates.

Or mostly complete nonsense...except perhaps the oil change intervals.

Bent rods are caused by excessive force. Of course poor oil/lubrication can cause it over a long time but it’s tuning which is the culprit on these ‘new’ cars.

I have mine changed on the half-interval (about every 7k miles) but stick to the approved oil specs
