That’s what I thought also. Have absolutely loved taking mine (F10) on a few decent euro trips. It really feels as though that’s what they were made for.

Palmball what has the fuel range like in the F90 on a long run? I recall the tank is quite a bit smaller than the F10’s 80l which gives me about 350 mile range on motorways.

Any one have any hunches on when the LCI M5 will be out ?

With BMW dealers advertising 20.5% off on these they are very tempting but I would really get pissed if they release an updated version within the next 12 / 18 months !

That's a very good question and one I have thought about.

I'm waiting two or three months until we either exchange or stay put and I'll then without doubt have an M5 in the drive.

The internet search engine suggests MY 21 so about 18 months away.

is that not about right though? LCI comes out 3 years which is half way through the life cycle of a car.

If you used that logic of not buying one because the LCI is due you'd never buy anything!!

Only thing I will say is LCI on M cars brings minimal and I mean minimal changes unlike the run of the mill models

John, I am interested to understand why you are looking at changing. I recall you felt there was little difference between the M5 and M5C and expect the cost to change makes the insurance delta pretty insignificant? What has changed?
Yea I spoke to my Insurancr Co, to upgrade is £49.00
The tracker £199 + £149 subs for the year then I change insurance Co.
I did a deal today £103330.00 +on the road for £78K, the car has all the extra packs included, great deal.

That’s a bloody good deal - I’m being offered £23k of a standard M5 pretty well loaded but will have to wait for a month or two.

Yep I see your point !

I bought my M6 Gran Coupe, new and it was an LCI model.

It had a much better level of spec, standard, before I started adding my options and also what I thought were much nicer headlights too, than the pre LCI, nicer steering wheel on the F10 M5 LCI etc.

The other point is I think BMW solved a few mechanical issues too, like leaking turbo coolant hoses for example on the pre LCIs.

Having said that the F90 M5 is pretty highly specc'd and no real reports of any issues to date.

Also another point is I bought a used, late low mileage W212 E63 AMG, to scratch the AMG itch, and to just to make sure I am patient before I buy my next ///M car. I think it worked out well otherwise I would have got into an F90 M5 at full list price, back in September pre discount time....

STD spec on my new M5 CP is high, can't see them adding any more stuff TBH.

Not yet - I’m in no position to commit to one even if I really wanted to. Can blame my ex wife for that! In a few years time with LCI, even bigger discounts and 0% then it would certainly be a very natural replacement for my F10 which I have enjoyed every journey in for 107k miles so far. Let’s see if I can get 200k before I retire her.

Yes, bar one irritating issue it has been fabulous carrying my wife and I plus our two one-year old boys to southern Switzerland and back. I must admit the RS6 would have been better still at some aspects (more refined, more practical) but the M5’s superb tech, fab seats and great suspension control (it really is very well damped) made up for that. We also managed to squeeze in two decent sized suitcases, two travel cots, two travel high chairs and a double buggy....all in the boot. So it also proved we don’t necessarily need an estate, SUV or hideous roof box to travel far with two babies!

Fuel range was average at best, the car barely takes £95 (about 75 litres) from fumes to brimmed and it gave a fairly consistent 300-320 mile range....nothing to write home about and basically meant two fuel stops between the UK and Switzerland. I averaged 21mpg across the whole 2000+ miles.

The only thing that marred the enjoyment was the bloody vibrations. I had the wheels balanced three times on the trip (went down a treat with the family did that!), one by BMW in Lucerne which can take the accolade as both the worlds most expensive and worst wheel balance.

The shake from the back wheels was nearly sorted by the first attempt at balancing where they found a rear wheel 85g out (that would have been balanced by the BMW factory). In trying to get perfection this was then totally ruined by the BMW dealer I tried and eventually sorted once and for all by the last place I used (a small motorsport shop / garage in Germany called Daum Mororsport which one of my friends recommended).

The front wheels are still not sorted, you can start to feel shake at 80ish and it just gets worse as speeds rise. Daum said one of the P Zeros was bouncing minutely on the machine so I’m having a new set of Michelin’s fitted in the morning and I have my fingers firmly crossed that’ll sort it once and for all!

What is interesting is the vibration is less noticeable (still there but less intense) in the UK. I wonder, when a car initially wears its tyres to our road camber and is then driven on the opposite side, does that magnify any imperfections?

Anyway, at least having it detailed before we went meant that it just took a quick wash today to get it looking all sparkly again smile

Lovely that. Fairly annoying about the wheels though, I'd probably be looking for tyre faults too, or they haven't been fitted properly (red dots high spots and all that). Or the wheels are not true.

Not sure what your experience is like with wheel balancing but I honestly wouldn't waste your time with the generic usual wheel balancers.
Just find a good reputable place with a hunter road force balancer. It is very likely that either the alloy has a slight kink in it on the tyre is goosed from the get go.

I don't use anything else any more. I haven been through the usual of yes Sir 100% balanced, the machine says so and we have balanced out the kink yet I can still feel it.

I had the 21" rotar alloys on an audi once and the face of them were pristine! I went into audi and said I need these straightened out as I can feel vibrations and I have seen them on a balancers. I had to argue with them to get them done!

After the two back wheels were done it was utter bliss! The manager who I was dealing with said its the first time in 15 years someone has asked for a "refurb" and the alloys were perfect on the face of them.

Infact every car I have ever bought (around 15 in total) I have had to get the wheels rebalanced.

Profiles are just too low on. I find the sweet spot as 40 on the fronts and 35 on the back but BMW generally run 35 on front and 30 on rear and its just not enough for poor roads.

Was in BMW 3 days ago and they had a X5 on 22s with a 30 profile. Honestly they won't last 1 week in most places.

Its amazing how much of a differnce it makes to you liking a car or hating it.
Good Luck! I feel your pain!

I collected my M5 Competition on Friday and, 3 days later, am 650 miles into the running in period.

What a car. It replaces my 2014 Singapore grey LCI F10 M5 which I'd owned since new. The step up in cabin quality is very noticeable, so too how stiff the car is - it reminds me of my 911.

Very impressed so far.
