I came from a 4C...interested in your thoughts- I miss the 4C a lot, especially the visceral experience and how it was such an event.

In my opinion the M2C is fast enough, perhaps too fast, I don’t know what it is but I can’t help drive aggressively and I don’t really enjoy it! If I overtook someone in the 4C I might get a thumbs up if they pulled up next to me at the next set of lights, it’s not a thumbs up I’m getting in the M2!

Anyone else find the car wanders a bit under heavy braking? Kinda reminds me of the 4C but obviously much tamer. The steering is another aspect that I find a bit disappointing, just the lack of feel, but then I have come from a lightweight sports car with manual rack so couldn’t expect much.

If anything, the M2 desperately needs an exhaust and I would say braided lines and updated pads.

Didn’t want to start a new thread but I have a question - why does the M2 not make a fart noise on gear change like most of the current crop of auto box performance cars?
Surprisingly even my old F TypeR would do it in certain driving modes.

Not heard the M2 do it yet.
Just curious (avoidance of doubt, I hate the sound of the farts...)
It does do it in sport+ mode. Particularly over 4k revs when blipping or backing off the throttle.
Sorry, I meant on the up shift.
My 4C was particularly embarrassing with the noises it made going up through the gears, whether in manual or auto mode.

Gary - I feel exactly the same!
Not sure if I’ll be keeping the M2 for long, just not getting it after the 4C (although it’s far more practical!)
I’m going to put a different exhaust on and see how it goes for a while longer.

Hmm interesting! I’m thinking exactly the same. Which exhaust are you going for, Remus?

I’ve been looking into the Milltek system - either the EC ‘quieter’ one or the race version.
Need a bit more noise - the 4C although obviously a different sound was just about at the right level for loudness (had the race exhaust on mine).

Don’t know much about the Remus system.

I have the Milltek OPF back, 'Race' version system on my car. I didnt hear the EC version, but the Race version is by no means loud. In comfort mode its no different to standard and with the valves open there is a fair bit more noise both on and off throttle. Biggest improvement is the loss of the obvious rear silencer box.

Great to know, thanks.
Do the valves work as the standard exhaust then?

Where did you get yours from and who fitted it, if you don’t mind..?

Yes the standard valves are re-used, I think, so it works with the usual driving mode settings.

Litchfield supplied and fitted mine...

Thanks.
I’ve been in touch with them, but they appear quite a bit more expensive than other places.

Just taken delivery of new M2C DCT in LBB at the weekend, 57k list with all the extras, and purchased for 45k so a great deal. Came from a 66 plate 335d xdrive which is not a slow car by any means!
I already love it and not driven it in any anger yet, only 1000 miles to go until the RIS. The DCT will take some getting used to compared to the smooth ZF box in the 335D but it's not as bad as the DSG in the wife's Tiguan which is just shocking!

I have Eisenmann sport version which is valved, gives a lovely burble but quiet when needed, I must admit it’s combined with a decat + straight through midpipe so not sure what the backbox only will sound like.

Well two months in and the RIS out of the way, everything about it I would say is awesome. The only thing I would criticise is perhaps the sound system which isn't great, and of course the quieter exhaust note (but it still sounds ok). First time driving a DCT and have to say its such an easy drive in full auto, and a quick press of the M button to get into 'manual' when needed is fun!

Probably the best car we have owned, although previous cars not in the same league, as various hot hatches etc, so not unexpected.

I owned OG DCT M2 back in 2016 - sold it in 2018 once I caught sniff of the Competition model.

I tempted to pick up a Comp model, but this time I have an itch for the manual.

A question to all... does the manual 'feel' more punchy with 6 speed vs 7 in the DCT?

Also, are any of you daily driving a manual M2....how is it?

I have used a manual M2 as my DD for the last three years and it's fine, if you are in stop-start traffic a lot an auto might be easier to live with. I love my M2 and plan to keep it long term, always enjoy driving it and it has the perfect mix of practicality, fun and performance although I do have an Audi estate if I need a proper practical car.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I went from a E46 M3 SMG to a M2 DCT.

While the SMG had an automatic mode, it was soo terrible you ended up driving the car manually (paddles) all the time. Moving to DCT massive improvement, but to the point where I started getting lazy leaving it in auto.... boring. The times when I went into manual were more fun of course, but I wondered if the car would feel different with 6 gears instead of 7.

Yes dd’ing an M2C manual. Great. Practical, low key easy when you want it to be, a blast when pressing on. No reason not to DD. I have winters too on another set of rims which were great last winter. Bought it new in November, now on 20k.

We have had ours about 6 months now. Leased a DCT (would have preferred a manual but my wife uses it to commute).

My summary would be as follows

Engine great
Way too quiet
Lack of heated seats on a 50k base car is a bit cheap!
Turn in good
Steering feel not great (but as all modern cars)
Standard brakes are terrible - I had a very soft pedal after a 3-4 minute blat down a twisty NSL road. Very unnerving and does make me back off in the car - there is no way it would last a lap on a track.

However I love the car so much I am considering buying a manual with BBK after the lease is done. Add an exhaust, a map and maybe a CAE shifter and I think you have my perfect all round road car.

Heated seats are standard on the M2 Competition in the UK - what have you got?
And if your brakes are giving up that quickly i'd suggest there's something wrong with them, that's not normal for the stock brakes on the M2 or M2C.
Agree on the quiet engine and the steering feel, but as you say i think that's symptomatic of modern stuff in general.

Tried one while looking for something to change from my M235i, was a good test drive some down some well known back roads.
Much better feel and drive than the current car, wasn't any more crashy still suffers with the same bobbing effect on motorways but way more grip and not relying on the traction control out junctions.

Shame it broke down mid test drive though leaving us stranded on side of road. Transmission fault was the message, didn't get to read everything dealer kept clearing the screens, should have put him in the back really.

Car jolting to a stop and then not restarting put me off really.
Wasn't sure I wanted to stay with BMW before but that confirmed it.

I thought from threads on here that some of the first M2 Competitions built didn’t have heated seats as standard. And I’m sure I’ve seen a few instances of heated seats listed in optional equipment on AUC.

I was impressed by the brakes when I flung one around the Brecon Beacons smile
