About 4 years ago my son bought this car intending to make it a running project car, he drove it for a couple of years. Long story short it failed MOT & he moved house with girlfriend leaving it on his mothers drive.
Familiar story, new baby & living 50 miles away means it is slowly rotting, but currently eminently saveable.
I sold him my 2017 320 on the understanding he would sell Evo & give me the money. That hasn’t happened. Before long his mum will have had enough.
Apparently it runs & drives, but will fail MOT on rusty sills etc.
He tried to sell it spares / repairs on eBay, but had no luck.
I know nothing about older BMW’s, I’m a Porsche guy, I don’t want the car for myself, but is there merit in getting it repaired & then sell it (but beyond my skill & ability) or is there a market for it as is, if so what is it worth? Looks like eBay is the wrong place.

Really depends on how bad the rust is and the condition of the rest of the car, engine, colour, mileage, history etc. They are worth a pretty penny but lord are they ruinous if not up to scratch. Detailed pictures will shed some light. If it's really rough it's worth at least 4/5k to a drifter let that be a bottom line

Thanks for your response, interestingly he had started the eBay auction at £4k as he also thought it may appeal to drifters / tuners

Its done around 120k miles, paint & interior are generally OK, its black & black leather, with history up to 2015 around when he bought it

All advice & thoughts much appreciated

He needs to film it horizontally and from further away - just watching that gives you a sore head!

ISWYM, but in his defence it is a small driveway & him being an aircraft technician making movies isn't his forte.

That’s the most rotten E36 I’ve ever seen!

It has lacquer peel on the bonnet. The amount of new metal that’s needed is huge. I’m sure someone would buy it via eBay-but for a lot less than 4K.

Is the no plate on retention? It would be worth a little bit of cash.

Sounds like a fair price.
