No one has mentioned the lack of torque below 3K rpm ... any comments on that ? biggrin
Difficult to mention/comment is as it produces max torque below 3k rpm at 2600rpm .
I was being sarcastic given the number of comments about it on forums / Facebook smile

I've just had a pack through the door inviting me to have a 24hr test drive of either and X3M or X4M. Got to say that I'm tempted. We currently have an F25 X3 (35d M-Sport) which I'm rather fond of so this could only be an improvement I suspect?

Worth doing the test drive would you say?

What's the annual tax on these? My current one is £465 a year.

I received this invite too. We're actively looking for a new car, and I really fancied one of these, but unfortunately, the deal won't be anywhere as good as last year. If they carried on into this quarter, I'd have ordered one on the 1st

Picked up my phytonic blue with adelaide grey leather in November. Got quite a few goodies (all but carbon pack) so far so good. Bought from Salisbury from a good chap and got 24k off.

Ride is as stiff as they come....comfortable on a long cruise with smooth motorway but terrible around town. Personally not so much of an issue for me as not used daily but could see it get frustrating for daily users.

Have to say I'm with EVO regarding the ride quality.

I have an M4 Comp and I found the X3M I drove to be far worse in harshness. Maybe they don't all ride the same if some are finding the opposite?

Wouldn't have expected BMW to have started fiddling with the suspension quite so early on, though.
There is an important setting for the adaptive suspension that defaults a stiffer ride from the factory combined with tyre pressures that are too high too. I've changed my to Partial Load and 2.3 bar (from Full Load and 2.9 bar). It makes a major difference.

I've no issue with the suspension, but I do have issue with the boomy noise on broken road surfaces and this for me is the only major negative to the X3M.
Can you explain more about the “important setting for the adaptive suspension” please? I’ve not come across it. Where is it? How do you change it? Thanks.

It's in the idrive tyre setting screen, when setting the pressures there is an option to choose the tyre type and load of the car, this gives you your ideal cold pressure recommendation.

For me it doesn't change the damper setting (nothing in the hand book indicates that the dampers take any instruction from changing the load setting) rather it just gives you the tyre pressure recommendation based upon the load/tyre type.

A few of the cars came from the dealers on max load and high pressures though, mine was at 2.8 bar when it should have been on 2.3 bar reducing the pressure to the recommended level will help if you feel it's too firm.

Thanks Wills2. Checked that and mine is already set correctly. Dropped my pressures down to 33psi front and 33psi rear and the ride seems good. Its obviously a very stiff car to allow an SUV to handle like a saloon/coupe M3/M4 so the ride is fine, it’s more the stiffness of the car I think people struggle with. The ride is no harsher than my M2 was. It’s an M car after all.
Thanks for you reply. Appreciated.

No worries, one thing I have noticed as the miles have gone on since Dec I'm up to 4k now and the weather has been warmer the ride has improved again, obviously I'm only going out once a week for shopping but I took it over the moors to the supermarket last week and it felt very supple (for an M car that is) plus the engine has really loosened up.

Yes it is very stiff in the chassis and I think that's what some describe as harsh, it cocks a wheel as I come off my drive as an example.

I’d agree - the more I bed in with the vehicle the more it delivers. Ride is fine and the performance is fantastic for a family vehicle. struggling to think of a vehicle that does so much and covers so many bases.

So my PCP deal is up in September and thinking of going for an x3m comp.

Do we think with the whole Covid19 we might see a return to the deal they did before Xmas?

I have seen a couple of nice ones around the 50k mark but the 10.9% APR puts me off so wonder if there will be a deal to be done once this lockdown is over?

I'd be reading that 10.9% as more like 6.9% or less.

Even 6.9% is to high for my taste i would buy at 2-3% though

With everything up in the air I'd just put it out of your mind and see where the market is in Oct when they release the Q4 deals.

They had a number of cars they needed to shift in Q4 last year hence the deal, no guarantees they will do it again as they have stopped building cars but there might be a glut of them in the parking lots that they need to shift once this is over so deals will be available.

Yeah I’m in no rush. Just getting my ducks in a row. I do really like the x3 m but don’t see it as an £80k car.

I also considered the x5 40i and x5 m50i but just a bit big for my needs

It's not, just like any M car never buy them for list or anything near (actually any/most cars when you come to think of it) you'd always want a deal wouldn't you?

Look how things have changed in the last 4 weeks, you've got 5 months so I wouldn't bother second guessing the market at the moment as no one knows.

Won’t the X3 be due a facelift too in the not too distant future?

Edit to say maybe not! Must have only just missed the new gen interior.

Just a mini review on my ownership so far.

Yup whenever the production starts there will be usb-c idrive 7 and livecockpit offering. I would like it not going to lie but I do like the current interface more and more. It’s classic and won’t date IMO, it does help I’ve done the full screen car play hack. Previous car had virtual cockpit but there is a risk you think you are driving an iPad. Hello Tesla.

I do love the look more and more the 21 alloys are amazing looking and the discs are fecking massive giving it a very mean look with the blacked out grills etc. I have the donington grey and same interior. In my eyes it screams performance. Plenty of positive comments.

Pretty much has all options including advanced parking and driving assist which is amazing on long journeys. I wish it had the carbon panels but can’t win them all. Also the ventilated seats would be good for 100 quid.

I’m loving the car more and more even if she is parked up 247. I don’t even miss the recently departed s5.

Longer route to supermarket is nice.

I’ve done about 2k miles and just before lockdown I had the MSS springs fitted at evolve soon to be on YouTube - for those who dislike the low speed ride this is what you need! I have two little ones and nursery and school trips with speed bumps galore it’s well worth it.

Starting to hear the engine note more and more I’ve also removed the fuse so the exhaust valves are opened all the time. Sounds terrific to me.

Re the reviews on character and torque etc I find utterly baffling as the performance is simply staggering. Had a play through rural roads in Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire and it was simply awesome quite easily can scare the crap out of you. 0-100 in 8 secs gives you an idea of how fast it is.

I also have the MPS4S which I was pleased to see. I also ensured they were at pressure levels on the door cards.

I will say she likes a drink but fair play not when parked up. smile

I also realise that living in London I don’t get to enjoy it as much as I should but I knew that already.

I managed to get the hidden 3 year franchise service pack from a different group who I bought the car from. Not the 4 year BMW plan. Works out about 750 for RIS, first oil and 3 year MOT and brake fluid. It doesn’t include the 4 year beast which is oil and spark plugs at 1k but in year 3 it’s bmw value and half price. As this is aligned to build date (jul 19) it will be due for me after 3.5 years not 4! Which is a pain but maybe I will chop in by then.
