interesting review. There seems to be a few around now at the 50k mark with a few thousand miles on them. Anyone on here stepped in and out of one and the reason you traded/got rid?

They will just be dealer demos, they selling these new 6 months ago for late 50's, I doubt there are many if any outside the network a few distressed sales perhaps? In fact on Autotrader there are only 46 and all in the network so all demos they still have the demo I drove at my dealer before I bought, cheapest is 54k. At the end of the day, just wait drive one and make your decision.

This is my 6th M car and I rate it as much as the others but again that's just my opinion and counts for nought in terms of what you think when you drive one.

If you did this, in theory would you have to return to stock on a pcp deal? How would they know as when ever I have traded they just check body work and interior.

You do not own the car on this PCP lark, so the car should be left as is.

Hi there I would say low speed ride is much better over broken tarmac and potholes/speed bumps so perfect for my area smile

Agree they won’t notice/care but I have the factory springs so if needed it’s 200-300 labour change to return to stock. In 3-4 years time on hand back the MSS springs might have some residual value to flog on but may just leave them for a free treat to the next owner smile the springs have eibach livery over them so not worried about quality. TUV approval is almost there

People do buy the car at PCP end and/or just px it outside of the dealer network so sometimes it doesn't matter. If going back to the dealer or a dealer ... perhaps they wouldn't care anyway if another nice shiny BMW is being bought?

Bumping this thread, as I am considering swapping my G31 540i (+ a not insignificant amount of cash) for an X3M (non Competition, I am in Belgium). I wonder if the hard ride comments is linked to the 21" wheels on the Competition, whereas the standard X3M comes on 20". The MSS springs do seem to fix that problem too, as an alternative.

Drive the car over various roads because the X3M comp I drove had a terrible ride but even worse was the road noise which on certain surfaces was horrendous.
Great engine let down by suspension setting which could easily had a comfort setting which was actually comfortable! smile

Test drove it today, and it was not for me. The engine was strangely diesel sounding in some lower rpm range, and below 3000 rpm I found it lacking. The gearbox was also dim witted, and I never found a good compromise (fastest shift speed held the revs endlessly, slowest was slow) and the overall feeling was of a sporty engine in need of a lighter car (M3/M4 could be a winner)

The suspension was not too stiff, but the road noise on certain surfaces was pretty bad.

Finally, I was surprised how cheap the interior felt, all lower surfaces were some very hard plastic, the door bins very flimsy and not lined. This was a 17.000 km, 70.000 euro car. My G31 5 series felt like a vault afterwards.

Agree with this. The engine isn’t characterful and doesn’t really ever feel as quick as the numbers suggest. And the gearbox shifts are never right which is why I drive mine in manual all the time. I use mine for a motorway bus really. It’s never ‘fun’ to drive and feels numb in most contexts.

I found it was quick but road noise came through and it was loud on some roads, as you say 3000 RPM before anything happening, not for me, I hope the new M3 /4 are not the same. I like a torque engine.

I test drove an X4 M40D (shock horror) immediately after, and found that engine to be so much better suited, relaxed super torquey engine (680 nm), and moving the not insubstantial weight with ease. The passive suspension (also on 20” RFT) was more comfortable, and the road noise lower.

The X3M is quite a flawed package in many ways which people overcame by the “deals” BMW were doing to shift them.

Took delivery of my car yesterday, ordered in November but caught up in showroom closures. Early days, but very impressed.

Bought as I liked the package, not because it was heavily discounted. Part-ex was an X5M.

I've had mine since December and still can't make up my mind as to whether I like it or not. My biggest gripe is the gearbox... Coming from an E93 M3 DCT (which is now 12 years old) I was amazed at quite how dim-witted it is. The DCT is in a different league. I had the software updated, but didn't make much difference.
