Couple of questions to owners. Would be very interested to hear from from recent purchasers:
Is the car being delivered on MP4S or run flats?
Also how is the ride quality, truthfully? We can't get to test one until the new year.
This will be the missus' car for shopping, odd trip to work etc, so doesn't need to be super compliant, but I don't want it to be super jarring either.

L405 Range Rover. This would be a second, smaller, car. (And would probably be the X4M because we don't need practicality)
I got rid of mine after 3 months for a F90 M5. The ride on 20” ( mine was non Competition) and Pirelli non run flat was very stiff, so forget about any SUV/RR notions of comfort. My advice would be to have a very extended test drive or ideally have it for a weekend. 01WE01 said:
Thanks all. Will have to try and get in one soon then.
Excellent discounts on them at the moment (I know it's because they are compromised).
Like Macans, but not at the lower end of the spec, and for what we want it'll end up being too pricey for a runabout.
There is good reason why Macans don’t need huge discounts!Excellent discounts on them at the moment (I know it's because they are compromised).

I got a set of MSS springs fitted to the car to take the edge off the ride - works a treat. That together with a 600bhp tune and it's starting to become a lot more enjoyable and useable. Is the car being delivered on MP4S or run flats?

Depends i looked at a Macan before ordering my X3m comp, I would say they are compromised as well due to being a lot tighter in the back and a lot down on power especially the S which i tried. The other thing that really put me off the Macan was the very scrooge like list of standard equipment. i would also say the 2.0T is the most common one purchased i hardly see any GTS or Turbo variants of the latest Macan with the light bar across the boot.
I sold my X3M back in September- I've owned many cars over the years including many M cars- all were brilliant except this one I'm afraid to say. My wife used it as her car mainly- rock hard ride made for a very uncomfortable experience- it was on non run flat Bridgestone tyres. Oh and make sure you have the tyre sealant and the BMW salesman hasn't nabbed it before handover- had to get BMW assist to recover the vehicle when it got a puncture. The MPG- on a careful run barely managed to get to 20mpg in the 9500 miles we owned it. Just not liveable with and unacceptable as a BMW M product in this day and age- I get more mpg out of my McLaren without even trying (obviously).
The X3M may appeal to some with it's brutal speed- it will keep up with most other fast cars in the real world. But in the real world I'm afraid it just didn't suit my needs. It all felt a bit "unstable" and too "synthesised" in terms of how it sounded Loved the way it looked, great interior and infotainment, but the harsh ride and poor mpg meant it had to go.
Sad to say it but I'm glad it's gone.

Was the ride not as good as a 7 Series BMW?The X3M may appeal to some with it's brutal speed- it will keep up with most other fast cars in the real world. I am a serial M owner - had 6 now and would like an X3M , however I can’t justify 20MPG in this day and age. Suspect I’m going to have to go for an X3 or X5 4.0D M sport instead - annoyingly!
I do wonder about residuals on Diesels as time goes on a DM they become less and less emissions “acceptable” ?

In a very mixed type of mileage but only one run of 450 mile return, first 1800 miles, just short of 24 mpg.
Don’t see why it would be as low as 20 unless it was mainly stop start type short journeys.
24mpg is still very poor in my opinion. RS6 which I stupidly traded for the X3M for did over 30mpg on a run. I think that's why I thought the X3M was so poor, also in terms of ride quality- was night and day compared to the RS6 which was so much more liveable with.Don’t see why it would be as low as 20 unless it was mainly stop start type short journeys.
I looked on many forums prior to the X3M with people saying "oooh I took X3M on test drive over variety of roads, it's not that bad"- so I stupidly pulled the trigger on it (without road testing myself). Still some people may like the way the X3M comp was set set up, but coming from the RS6, I was badly disappointed.
