Anybody out there able to help?

Considering a 2017 M5 which will be out of warranty mid 2020. Not for sale at BMW dealer but FSH. Has anybody any idea of the cost of extending the warranty with BMW when it expires?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there was a 2017 M5 - they finished the F10 in 2016, and launched the F90 in February 2018. Maybe a late registration I guess.
Put the details in here: https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Start No personal details required, just the registration number.
Just make sure you're sitting down when you see the quote. I'd guess around £2k/year.

I'd say you're pretty much bang on.

I tried with a Nov 2016 car from the BMW used car search and it shows £1,987 for a comprehensive warranty with £100 excess. Drops by £400 if you take £250 excess.

I pay £793 to roll forward the BMW warranty on a 47k mile pre-LCI FBMWSH with a 250 excess.

IIRC I had the option to pay about 1k for the warranty without the excess. I wish I had done that, everything in BMW land costs over 250.

You can pay monthly but its about 15% more.

If you intend to use the BMW warranty they give you a unique login and there is an online calculator. I faked my mileage as 61k and it jumped dramatically, I think to about 2k.

I've paid more than 2k or had more than that in warranty claims in almost every large used saloon I've ever owned past 5yrs. I think the BMW warranty is great but I wonder if they can keep it up as the F10s age and big items regularly go?

I have the warranty T&C overview PDF in front of me (sorry the cut n paste is being an arse):

What is insured?

Not sure where £2k comes from.

2k is a new quote after an AUC or original manufacturers warranty has lapsed.

Your 793 is a bargain and presumably a continuation of either the original bmw warranty or AUC warranty?

Took out a warranty on my e92 last month, the guy on the phone said there's a bit of leeway around the 60k point, upto 65k he reckoned you could still secure the better pricing beyond that it would step up, maybe of use if it's a higher mileage car

This^

If you're doing a continuation of the current warranty it's vastly cheaper.

The new car warranty on my 2014 M6GC expired in October 2017, I bought it in Feb 18 from an independent (much better deal) and bought the BMW warranty in May 18 it was about£1200 with 250 XS but this included emergency service which IIRC is about £150. On renewal the next year it dropped to about £800 same terms so it seems the first year is higher if it is out of warranty. £2000 seems a bit steep tho yikes

Not sure if this still holds true, but the best way to approach the extended warranty used to be:
<60k mileage; pay annually
Then on the year that you think you'll clock over 60k, switch to monthly payment as that doesn't rise with mileage.

The price ramps up considerably when over 60k miles.

My E92 M3 renewal quote was over £3000 for the full cover, breakdown, £100 excess (ie best cover) after it had gone over 60k miles. I didn't bother renewing.

Yes this does hold true. I did this last year. It does cost slightly more to pay monthly than annually but it does mean you save considerably when you tick over to 60k which I will do shortly. I pay £85 a month now.

When my x5's 1 year auc ran out I did a couple of dummy quotes. The price was much higher than that associated with my actual car so pls bear that in mind...

I feel good about buying an AUC car now - yes it was continued from their warranty

Not an M car,but we ve just had the paperwork through for our warranty, from reading the above then am i right in thinking that if BMW have sent you a letter with a Login and pin code, the rates will be cheaper than me just asking for a quote?

BMW X4 if that makes a difference.

For my M2 about to come up to its 3rd birthday I can't get a normal quote from the website; I have to use the login sent in the post.
