I'm not sure where your rant comes from and who suggested listening to some YouTuber kid.

I suppose if you are 60+ you will have some sort of rapport with this chap and value his opinion somewhat. thumbup
It just seems odd that you are so keen to disparage and dismiss the opinion and experience of one of the UK's leading and most respected car journo's.

I'm forty one years old but still remember Autocar / Frankel reviewing the McLaren F1 when I was mid-teens. Mostly I remember 243 MPH !!! Mind. Blown.

Opinion of an old man on an old car. Whatever does it for you I suppose.
Frankel knows his onions, age has nothing to do with it apart from the fact it means he has a lot of experience and knowledge of his subject, when you grow up you might have some as well.

Sorry, didn't know this was a fanboy only thread. The e46 is a car that I have driven extensively over the years and know of its flaws and is also in the "overrated cars thread".

Will let you chaps enjoy your love in in peace.

Agreed, Frankel is a great journo, driver and a ni e bloke too. Ruling his views out based on his age is the mark of an imbecile, at best. He quite likes the M2 too, he must be right.

Wilful, forced ignorance initiated the insult...

Anyway, I like my M3. I found my F10 M5 boring.

Erm....I suggest you use that google thing
Yeah, done that and my question still stands. But if his opinion excites you then fair play.
I suspect you probably just googled 'Andrew Frankel' and assumed the first person who popped up is the one giving his opinion on M cars.

Back to the cars: I think the E46 is probably right up there in my favourites. I've never owned one but I think I might give it a go one day soon.

What about the Z4M?
Think I had my Z4MR for 8 years, it was an absolute delight, in relation to this debate a Z4MC holds its weight much better, S54 and a gorgeous looking package, M2C is an absolute riot but I totally understand the love for the E46, Chris Harris once on these very pages also said in his opinion the E46 M3 was a much better package. IMHO if you can live with the reduced practicality, the upside is a fablous and rare coupe we'll not see the like of again.

Nice collection, and age has nothing to do with it I say, drive and enjoy whatever you like, I bought my E46 M3 when I was 27, and then at 35 bought A Jaguar Etype, doesn’t matter how old you or the car is, what lockdown should have shown us is to enjoy these cars whilst you can.

The TVR looks like the odd one out in the BMW focussed collection but I think they are great cars, still quite fancy a T350....

You look and get the green eyed monster. Says a lot about you.

I look and think what a champion he is.

You also look to denigrate Frankel. Without knowing anything about him. Again, instructive.

Each to their own I guess

Ah bless, some of us had the e46 M3 when they came out and are 10 cars on from there now, but it's a still good car and one of the best M made.

P.S most thread opinions in general gassing are worth ignoring as they are generally posted by garageless trolls, a bit like you (HTH)

I had an immaculate e46 11 years ago....the sound of the S54 on song is unforgettable. Bad analogy, but to me it sounded like a Lancaster bomber taking off. I sold it because I don’t keep anything longer than a couple of years. I tried to mentally replace the excitement I had for my e46 with a succession of ‘great’ cars that just left me flat after the initial excitement wore off...C63 Merc, F80 M3 and so on. They went within a year. So I’ve now just bought another e46 M3....and the chap I’m buying it off is the first owner who’s now in his late 60s. I’m aiming to keep it...partly because I think there’s long-term value appreciation in a decent unmolested M3, but mainly because - apart from a Fiat X1/9 I had when I was 19 - it’s the only car that’s created ‘memories’ if that makes sense.

I got a great reminder of that today on a 90 mile round trip to visit family (in the garden with social-distancing)!

But my S54 isn't in an E46, it's in a Z4M Coupe and it's one of the first cars I have bought where how it looked was a big factor in my decision - it just looks so right. Plus I don't need rear seats in my weekend car but if I did it would have to be an E46 M3.
