No, I just don’t go around racing kids in hot hatches, thinking I’m king dick.

When you say "kids in hot hatches" what you actually mean is "I have no idea what car they were accelerating with and I got it massively wrong with my reference to "moderately quick" so I will now respectfully bow out".

Er, no, what I think he means is that some of us have grown up and know when and where to make progress, and it’s not between traffic lights and pedestrian crossings!

I am trying to wonder how many cars, especially non-obviously supercar ones, could hand a new M5 it's arse on a plate? It's monstrously powerful with 4wd.

Doesn't matter if it's a Supercar! Funniest / most-embarrassing thing car-wise for me was being obliterated by a 20-year-old Golf whilst I was in my first Lambo a few years ago. God knows what he had under the bonnet but hats off. All smiles at the roundabout, esp. when he said he was stuck in 2nd thumbup

How do you know in what respect "when and where to make progress" relates to the two chaps in question who Wormus has quoted? Were you there? If so pls tell us exactly what happened, I'm all ears especially as you seem to know that is was "between traffic lights and pedestrian crossings" ...

Perhaps sometimes people are just keen to see/hear what a your car can do, rather than actually looking to race. I know personally I love to see certain cars doing what they were built for, within reason of course! But yeah, there are always going to be some dheads about too.

Cheers,
Ben

That's certainly possible and, TBH, I'd quite like to know too... bit soon in the relationship to be sure but promising so far!
It's also fair to imagine all the cars I mentioned were the P&J of their owners, and obviously being enjoyed so I'm certainly not knocking that either cool

No, you’re right, it may have been a diesel van, people carrier or perhaps an unsuspecting middle aged man in a 2.0 estate? You can guarantee it wasn’t somebody in a super car or bike. Anyone who drives about thinking every other driver is “having a go” probably just has a point to prove. I can sense a bit of that from this thread, an X3 will be never be fast and whilst an M5 is a nice car, 11.x second quarter mile is hardly devastating. It’s just quick compared to cheaper, slower, average cars that you should have the sense not to race in the fast place.

Going around teaching people lessons just sounds stupid.

Can young people not have nice cars now?
You're about 10 years behind the curve :-)

I had a fully decal'd up track car with big wing etc. A lot of people wanted to race me at the lights. It was nice to interact with some car enthusiasts.

My suggestion would be to lighten up a little smile

I would never race anyone on the UK roads, way to dangerous. Someone mentioned 11 sec 1/4 mile time, that's quite quick and 3 sec too 60 MPH.

Couldn’t agree more with this. When I was a lad and I’d pull up next to someone in something tasty, I didn’t ‘give it a rev’ because I thought we were going to have a race! It was because I hoped to encourage the guy to open it up and we could see what it would do!

If you’re racing people on the street, you deserve anything that comes to you. But clogging it where appropriate to do so, in order to amuse some lads in a hatchback, is part of the pleasure of owning something special (IMHO) and long may it continue!

Has no-one ever raced a little bit on the road then? Never fancied putting your foot down on a dual carriageway, or away from some lights?

I thought this was the BMW section not the Jaguar section laugh

Indeed. M5 competition is a 2 tonne, 600hp saloon. Hardly something to boast about.

And all those cars are less than 11 sec, M5 is closer to 11.5. Country mile between those times.

I’m not saying that the M5 is a st car but it’s nowhere near super car quick. Over the half mile it would be at the back by some margin.
