Luigi, sounds like you didn't get to enjoy the m5 for too long which is a shame. Planning to keep this for a while all being well.

This Troy Jeup, I will look into, however the note about the oil, pretty sure if I do this then the Mondial warranty will have an easy win to back out of any potential engine related issues. Currently using Castrol 10w60 Supercar oil, and as far as I am aware the previous owner used this too.

Thermostat is booked in, along with spark plugs when it goes in for the rod bearings this week. Yes ACL bearings are the ones being installed.

MikeM6, glad to hear you got your DVD drive sorted under warranty without any issues. Don't suppose you used a garage anywhere near the NW?

It was Lincoln dealer, so not near you I'm afraid. Any dealer should be the same though (in theory!). Only BMW dealers do the warranty work, so check out the reviews for you local one and see what they are like.

I'm still using 10w60 for warranty reasons, although 5w50 is recommended by some and I'm not sure BMW would ever be able to tell, but it would be a risk. Maybe have 10w60 every 15k miles at the dealer and then use 5w50 for the interim oil changes if worried?

Mondial warranty as others have said worth its weight in gold ...I've had seat mat,6 cd changer ,gearbox position sensor ,the horn ,gearbox mechatronix, throttle actuators,in-tank fuel pumps ,clutch and flywheel ,oil pump, new gearbox ,pair of cats ,fuel tank vent valves ,and I'm sure a couple more minor repairs that escape me ....you certainly won't get that for 3.5k

I am trying to get hold of Darren Wood. Called a couple of times but no answer. Just checking if people here still believe he is in business?

Yes he is still in business, he is very busy these days. Have commented on your other thread re Evost and Jamie.

Just to wade in with what others have said, rod bearings plan for circa 1500-2000. Looking at the bill my m6 had from Darren Woods for bearings he charged 1600.

In my opinion while the cars having its bearings done its worth while getting the vanos line replaced too. Unlike the e9x these cars don't seem to go through engine mounts so it might not be required but I'd get anyone looking to do the work to look and factor those in too.

Another one to add to the list is Injectors, I know you have bmw warranty but they struggled to get hold of the bosch injectors. If you look for ultimatevelocity on Instagram he has a few sets left before they're NLA and these would be the two items I'd get done before anything else.

Throttle actuators, you can use rebuild just like the e9x platform and everything else that comes with s85 ownership will throw an alarm bell but shouldn't stop you moving.

The main crux is usually, rod bearings, throttle actuators, injectors, idle actuators and the clutch and flywheel.

Just to add that Ultimate Velocity are are an excellent company and very trustworthy. Uvis, who owns the company, has an E60 M5 and is also the company who supercharged mine.

As above, injectors are very much worth doing.
