So 2 weeks ago, on a rare trip to the studio, with the rising sun at my back, a pigeon swoops down to attempt a landing on the road where I will shortly arrive at 50mph. It spots me coming out of the sun and aborts ..... too late. Didn't sound that bad but modern cars?!

Pulled over and found a nice pigeon dust shaped imprint across the driver side light and onto the front bumper and bonnet. Headlight looked intact and was working so carried on.

We had loads of rain and I have worked from home since, noticed a bit of 'sweat' in the driver side light! On closer inspection there looked to be a hairline crack, at the bottom right of the clear lense near the grill. eBay search says £1k for an LED icon light.

A week later I headed out to the studio, again in heavy rain, and random light errors flashed then vanished. On way home a constant 'adaptive headlight system error' alert settled in, urghh.

'Right I'll remove light, dry it out and DIY seal any cracks, my time but little money!'

After some YouTubing on M2 bumper removal and rolling around on the wet gravel I got the bumper off and found the hairline crack was not so hairline, and the light unit had about 1 inch of water sat in it. The only place for water to drain seems to be via the electrical connector at the back which is showing slight corrosion and sludging.

I really can't be arsed, just spoken to the BMW indy in Swindon as if I'm in for a new light I might as well get someone to fit it. Don't know if I can even be bothered to fit bumper back on and might just trailer it there. No Xmas pressies for kids this year.

Also the local pigeons keep sh***ting on my decking.

Have you looked on autodoc to see if you can get a replacement lens? It might be worth a look before spending ££££ on a new headlight.

Thanks for Autodoc tip, no joy though.

Struggling to find ANY of the LED icon headlights, ones I found on eBay were incorrect type.
