M4 Comp is one of the cars on my shortlist to replace my 440 this summer. In fact, I'd say it's currently the front runner! This car at Alexanders Prestige could easily tempt me to jump sooner...

I love the colour, although I appreciate it's not exactly subtle. I think my dilemma is two-fold. I can get a newer car with the Comp Pack and Ultimate Pack for similar money. Of more concern, however, is whether it's prudent to buy an M car from a non-franchised dealer. I've always bought my cars (BMW, Porsche, Ferrari) from main dealers and it suits my play-it-safe attitude. Anyone got any thoughts on that point? Can you put a watertight BMW warranty on an M4 after it's bought? Thanks folks.

Hi

Bmw have an extended warranty program which I have used on my m135i for the last 5 years. I have not needed to claim on it so can't comment on how good they are at paying out but from the reviews its a no questions asked warranty. My car did not come from the BMW franchised dealer network, I received a letter when my 3 year warranty was about to expire, went to the website and payed my money. They have various levels of cover and excesses so I can't comment on the cost for an M4 but my M135i is around £450 a year with the max cover and a £200 excess.

BMW Maidstone had a brand new (old shape) M4 in this colour and spec in December when I had mine serviced, not sure if its still there but might be worth a call.

Thank you Lee for the response. Good to know about the warranty.

The Verde Mantis M4 at Maidstone BMW has sold, although they do have a very striking M4 in a darker green. It’s just a bit more than I want to spend at the moment.

You can buy the BMW Insured Warranty , it’s very good.
But if you buy outside of AUC , will you know if car was mapped as that will invalidate warranty at least to the point of anything engine related.
BMW check automatically and pretty easily and should also check for mileage blockers.
If buying outside of AUC you need to be at least as sure of the provenance of the car. M4s are common enough , I would tend to stick to AUC unless , for example if individual colour is key, you locate something special and rare.
Also, get a free account on BCA. Seems besides part exchanges a chunk of cars on non franchised forecourts are auction buys. I’ve followed progress of some nice on the surface but really sketchy cars that have gone that route. And dealer has misrepresented the car.

Thanks Smuler. The more I think about this, the more I want to buy from a BMW dealer. As you say, there's an abundance of low mileage AUC cars with great spec and a good selection of colours, albeit not 'day-glo' green. But this is going to be my daily driver so arguably that's no bad thing. Current short-list to replace my 440 is M4 or (stretch the budget a bit) and go M5 or M850i. When the showrooms re-open it'll be nice to actually have a proper look and test drive.

You could always wait and get one of the new ones…

Thanks, but I don't think the new-shape M4 is my cup of tea. Interestingly my local BMW dealer phoned me last week and said BMW were offering a £4,000 incentive on the new M4, plus he hinted at additional dealer support on top of that, which surprised me given the car has only just launched.

You definitely need to drive all.

Only my experience , but I hate the M3/4 competition pack seats , there’s no adjustable lumbar as per the OGs.

I believe M5 is more comfortable than the sportier
M5 Competition Pre LCI and that the LCI is actually best of both worlds. Maybe too much of a stretch though.
I don’t know anything of the 8 series.

Probably because it’s so ugly, they can’t wait to get it out of the showroom. so that they don’t have to look at it any more laugh

That's funny. I made sure to be very diplomatic with my initial response, as I thought it might be your new yellow M4. But obviously not. smile And yes I agree with you...it's not a face I'd enjoy having to stare at all day!

laugh

I went to pick up some beers from a local micro brewery and there were a few new BMWs just seemingly being stored there - still got all the protective stuff on the seats etc. Presume they are for the 1st March plate change, as there was no outside transport plastic on any of them.
