Debating a Litchfield stage 1 tune, anyone have it done?
Concerned that it coud be wiped out if a main dealer flashed a firmare update, and also wondered if it makes a big difference over stock.

Or if Bootmod3 is the way to go?

Can't find any recent posts so any pointers much appreciated

Does you car have a warranty? If so then don't get a remap if you want to keep the warranty. BMW can detect if a car has been mapped, even if the map has been removed.

It does, but not concerned about that aspect.

I am in a similar position.

I have my car booked in for a stage 1+ in 2 weeks, its a 2019 m2c and my warranty runs out in June so have waited until then to get it done, I have opted for the Active Autowerke Equal Length midpipe (which removes resonator and GPF filters) and removes some of the nasty sound from the S55, and I have opted for Ecutek as I think its overall better than BM3/MHD OTS maps (nothing wrong with them but rather better custom map via ECUTEK)

Before I done any of this I addressed the crank hub issue and have had a full fix with the one piece crank hub fix, I wouldnt really want to be going stage 1 or more without personally.

Could also look at a gearbox flash (if DCT), BM3 comes with a free GTS style one which is a good free upgrade or you can go better and get XHP which is very highly rated

If a dealer updates software theres a good chance it would wipe the map, you can ask them not to update but if its under warranty they will expect it to be updated.

No worries enjoy, some fantastic times and performance to be had, seen a few 6.6 - 6.9 100-200 times from stage 1 m2c posted. Thats blisteringly quick!

sorry forgot to add you will also have to have your DME bench unlocked too which is something to consider and factor in cost wise (probabaly like £100/£150)

Had myne done by Litchfield with the crank hub in January: brutal little thing now. I fancy a change but I just can’t think of anything anywhere near as fun, without spending at least 3x the money.

I wasn’t worried about the warranty. Alcon brakes they fit as well are good.

Sounds good - so it's a defnite difference to stock?

And does it still drve smoothly for day to day use?

I’m running the Litchfield stage 2 including crank hub fix. It’s an absolute rocket ship.

Not had any problems with the car.

When I say rocket ship it is blisteringly fast, but the mapping has been done in way that it can all be used, I’m not saying it doesn’t want to kill you sometimes, if you respect how much power you have under your right foot you will be fine, it’s very very entertaining.

Mine is 560bhp/560ftlb as it’s has the OFP delete as well.

The Bluetooth module is worth getting as well and offers good data and adjustments.

If your close to Essex drop me a DM

Thought I would update this for you beaver as just had it done yesterday, copy and paste of another post I made:

So I made the jump to stage 1+ yesterday on my M2 Competition.

I have always used WG Motorworks as I trust Warren immensely and respect his knowledge and level of service, I had the full crank hub fix done a few weeks ago with the one piece insane fix just for peace of mind before pushing it.

Arriving I had already ordered the Active Autowerk equal length midpipe which was fitted , quality really nice on these (should be for the price), old OPF filters and Resonator removed. I had opted to go for Ecutek over BMW or MHD, nothing against either as I had MHD on my last Mlite and it was great, just felt Ecutek offered slightly more customisation and peace of mind for the job at hand.

After the DME was bench unlocked it was just a case of mapping, there was a small delay with Ecutek and getting some older software needed but they did come through and mapping eventually began, the car after the midpipe pulled a healthy 430bhp/450lbft

After mapping and some adjusting directly from Ecutek the high power map made a lovely 528bhp/550lbft, it was then setup on 3 maps to have switching on the fly

Map 1 - 524/515lbft
Map 2 - 528hp/550lbft
Map 3 - 496hp / 490lb/ft

Ecutek also offered adjustable burble on the fly which you just adjust from the steering wheel and using the sports dials as measurements for increments etc. All very neat.

I also had Xhp stage 3 installed at the same time

My initial verdict was that I was speechless at how it had transformed the car, the noise alone from the equal length is insane, It reminds me of my early 2000s jap import twinscroll impreza, the noise and scream is fantastic, genuinely sounds like a GTR from inside driving.

The performance is incredible, the huge torque increase and free revving nature now is ridiculous, I have only really tested in the mid power setting for now and even that is probably more than you need on a dry road in the summer. its made the car for me as it should have been, I was sort of having buyers remorse after a few months, the noise alone was so poor as standard that it genuinely spoiled the driving experience.

Anyone thinking of getting the midpipe I recommend it, its the best mod I have done on the car. Hoping to do some Draggy times soon so will update on this.

Summary - do it.

Thanks for the follow-up; can I ask who did the crank hub change please?

Also, any concerns about future mot issues with the mid-pipe/opf delete?

Having now done the Le Mans trip (2 years later) the car was bought for, it’s either tune time or time for a change (not that the car hasn’t been impeccable).

No worries mate.

Reference unlocking, I think the later 2020 models onwards cannot even be bench unlocked yet, Mine is a June 2019 so it can be bench unlocked and then flashed as normal. People with later 2020 cars are putting in older ECUs in order to map on some forums!

The crank hub was carried out by Warren at WG Motorworks, he has done stacks of them now and has a long list of waiting cars for it. Full day jobby, I went for the full one piece fix for peace of mind over the bolt capture plate etc

I just had my MOT done before this so no worries for a year anyway, in all honesty I am not that worried, it will still pass an MOT emission test as primary cats in place, the only thing it would fail on is a visual inspection if they actually bother to check for the missing OPF filters, personally I am not even sure if half the MOT stations will know what every single OPF filter looks like on each car etc.

I still have the old one if it ever came to the worst and could have it bodged on for the purpose of the MOT. Genuinely not that worried though and will just stick it in and see if they say anything, I expect if it passes emissions still OK then probably will be fine.
