How are BMW getting worse and worse with their designs? It's like they've worked out how to fk up the front end (enormous and ugly grilles) and now they're just making sure by fking up the rear as well. What a fking disaster of a design that M2 is. And a shame.

As incoherent as this looks, and I really like the Playmobil description, I think some aftermarket bumpers could fix this quite easily, so is a better proposition than the M3 and M4, which are more fundamentally bad.

My theory about BMW design is that they realise they soon won't be able to sell the driving dynamics at all, as electric cars will be so characterless and efficient, so homogeneous. So they have to find another selling point and that is an individual and distinctive look. Many will think it's bad, but then look at adolescents and young adults these days, they often look odd too, so BMW is pitching to them, not us.

Don't think the colour helps one bit. Should be specing mine up on the 12th of Oct, was told there were some new colours but bloody hell.. ! I choose "Thundernight" for my M240 which suits it well imo so do hope there's some more suitable colours available...!

You can put whatever colour lipstick you like on a pig; a pig it remains…

The colour certainly doesn't help, but even so that doesn't look great from the pics though. Maybe it will look better in the metal and in a darker colour.
It’ll look better in the dark, with your eyes closed!

I don’t think the current 2 series is a particularly great looking car; there are too many flat surfaces and boot ends too abruptly for my tastes.
hehe

The more I look at this the worse it gets. I'm just trying to be a little bit optimistic that it doesn't look this bad in the metal though. Definitely marmite that's for sure!

The purple is the only colour that suits the 240i in my opinion. The flat grey makes the car look particularly horrific.

I agree even though it was a toss up between "Thundernight" or the "Brooklyn Grey" at the time of ordering.

Agree with this - no way I could part with £60K + if I wasn't happy with the looks of the car!

Straight away the front end looks so much nicer than the new M2!

That is shocking, hideous in fact.

The latest M4 hasn’t grown on me still, the new 2 series looks awkward and this….fk me, it’s like a cheap rip-off of itself.

I just couldn’t bring myself to own one, no matter how good it was to drive.

I saw a post on Instagram that compared the previous M2 to the leaked one from various angles….the F87 looks a million times better from every angle.

I’m sure it’ll be bloody fast, but if I need to hand over £60k plus to get into one, I want to look at it and think that’s a good looking car. This misses the mark on so many levels.

Worse than the front end of the M4 which I had previously thought must be impossible.

I'm sure Joe Achilles will be drooling over it just like the rest before. And the media will crown it "your last chance to get a 6 cylinder petrol"

M135i - grab it while you can
M140i - definitely the last...definitely
M2 - wow, we won't see the likes of that again
M2 comp - no, this is the last one. future classic for sure
M240i - crikey it's ugly, but the last of a breed. go buy one.
new M2 - oh. another one. still, this must be the last. buy one, just wear a blindfold...

You missed the one that really matters... M2 CS.

In hindsight, that car really is starting to look like 'peak small M car'. Good looking, small, 6 cylinder, limited edition and manual option.

Whatever comes from this new platform simply can't compete with that, on looks alone. M2 CS owners must be absolutely delighted. What looked like a slightly odd, overpriced car at launch is pretty much guarenteed long-term desirability at this point.

The AD I sourced my 2C from in June 20 rang today to see whether I wanted to ‘upgrade’ to the Playmobil effort… poor sales guy laugh
