Picked up the M2 today, back up the M6 and up and over Hartside back home. Changeable conditions and nursing man flu so no heroics other than one or two dryish sections. The internet is a great tool for research into car related stuff and the drive pinpointed the main weakness of the car which seems to be fairly universal in terms of reviews.

On rippled tarmac the mismatched standard springs/dampers are exposed, bobbing would be my best description, reminds me of my old 964RS ie a handful on bumpy tarmac. Lots of good stuff too though, steering is much tighter and more positive than M Lite cars, feedback is way better all round too. Brakes sharp though some judder even in the wet after a few hard stops so pads will be changed. Plenty fast enough unless you like drag strips and sounds great - for a turbo motor.

Anyway will try those MSS springs and see if it copes better with the gnarly stuff.

About to buy an OG 2017 M2. Pick it up at the end of the month. For the hard chargers among you I’m after a good fast road set up, I know from experience BMW sport suspension leaves a lot to be desired.

Decent compliance is important given some of my local roads are not exactly billiard smooth. Probably going with CL pads - standard pads WILL fade badly ( another BMW failing ).

I won’t be tracking it. As an ex racer I’m done with going around in circles and I’m lucky to be close to some great roads, relatively deserted.

Ohlins, PSS16 etc ? Any thoughts based on experience appreciated.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted in PH !
Keep it standard! I have done many track days in my Lotus, special stage forest rallying and years of endurance karting. My totally standard 2016 M2 is totally adequate for fast road use.I can push quite hard and it performs well.If the brakes fade and you bounce off the road, then you are driving dangerously on the public highway!
How fast do you really want to go.
The public roads are not racetracks of rally special stages!

Each to their own I guess. The standard pads ended up juddering badly after a few minutes into a moderately spirited drive on relatively empty roads that I know intimately. The suspension is a well known weakness with mismatched springs/dampers and that’s exactly how it feels.

Perhaps tone down the sanctimony or buy a Lexus and get off the forum as your post smacks of hypocrisy.

Did you get the MSS Springs fitted? Be interesting to know how it feels.
