BMW prices the M6 Cabriolet

Three top Caterham CSRs cost little more

Launch of the M6 Convertible
Launch of the M6 Convertible
BMW has priced the M6 Convertible -- the highlight of BMW’s stand at the British International Motorshow and which goes on sale next month -- at an eye-watering £86,400.

Powered by the 5.0-litre V10 International Engine of the Year and using a host of F1-derived technology, the BMW M6 Convertible combines all the performance of the M6 Coupé but with the added luxury of open-air motoring.

What else can you buy for that sort of money? A Porsche 997 Cabriolet S retails for £74,910 plus options, you could buy a near-new Aston Martin V8 Vantage, or how about a Maserati Spyder? An open-topped Mercedes 63 AMG costs less. Or how about (almost) three Caterham CSR200s?

But then, you don't get 507bhp in any of them....

Supurb Engine, but package overpriced as a whole.

Should make a good second hand buy after the hit...

Reads like a bad press-release.

"the BMW M6 Convertible combines all the performance of the M6 Coupé but with the added luxury of open-air motoring."

It can't offer ALL the performance, unless it's as stiff and no heavier than the Coupé. Which it isn't, surely.

And since when is "open-air motoring" luxurious?

Come on Pistonheads, a bit of measured cynicism would be good.

I like electronics. I'm more than happy with a zillion differet mobile phones.
I still thought that the M6 was too full of gadgets. The only one I liked was the HUD.

But then what do I know, my car has wind-up windows.

For that money you could buy this new shape M5 -

www.pistonheads.com/sales/92216.htm

PLUS for those days when you have run out of Head and Shoulders -

www.pistonheads.com/sales/90503.htm

and neither of them are as ugly a car as the 6 series.......

The type of car you buy when money isn't an issue otherwise why would you want one?
Having said that you do get that lovely plastic dash board for your money.

Thats cos you don't live in the south of france or Miami and don't earn a squillion pounds a minute, I'm guessing.

But then if you did would you buy this of a 430. Hmmmm, no contest there then.

BMWs aren't cars, they're status symbols (except the M3 & M5), if you want a good, 4 door German saloon, do the sensible thing, buy an Audi

Show me another 4 seater convertible with this sort of performance - RS4 cab and the new Bentley are probable the only ones.

Yeh, but electric windows have no place in a VX220, Simon. And you haven't fessed up to the navigation system.

It aint no 4 seater. I'm currently driving a 630 convertible (courtesy car) and it's definately a 2+2. I'm less than 6 foot tall and there is no chance of fitting even small kids behind my seat. Thank God I've not got any!

Its not a car for ordinary folk. Its for fat X (cat/wallet/physique - they tend to combine) city boys who work too hard. They want a flash car that goes fast and is easy to drive and others wont have. Price reflects this - well done BMW.
It wont replace their lost youth, and I expect it will never see the speed it is capapble of but so long as they are happy and keep pushing the money around its fine.

I don't see the point of convertible with this kind of performance full stop. I think the 911 TT cab is a ridiculous car too.

Why would I buy a car that has the engine in the wrong place?
