Those types of posts are just thrown in to provoke a reaction which they manage to do every time.
Ignoring it would serve the forum better as they will soon loose interest once they see that no one bites IMO.

Its not a car for ordinary folk. Its for fat X (cat/wallet/physique - they tend to combine) city boys who work too hard. They want a flash car that goes fast and is easy to drive and others wont have. Price reflects this - well done BMW.
It wont replace their lost youth, and I expect it will never see the speed it is capapble of but so long as they are happy and keep pushing the money around its fine.

I'm 50 and a bit (alot) overweight and have thought seriously about buying the M6 conv. Why? I drive to the coast most weekends and AVERAGED 130 KPH over 250 KM in new Golf GTI. Saw a max of 237kph. In all fairness I did have to sit behind a police car for about ten minutes at 140kph (86 MPH) but once he peeled off we were all flat out again.

My point?? Do you make such observations just to be noticed and see what the responses are, in which case fine, or do you really believe what you write. I still ride a Triumph Speed Triple most days, fairly close to the limit, and I truly believe if you came with me in either the GTI or the M6 down to the coast (South of France as I live in Italy) you would be screaming either to be let out or if you're completely insane (like me) go even faster. Don't generalise like that, because looks can be very deceiving.

BTW, parked next to me was a UK registered dark grey burgundy interior MURCIELAGO spider and words cannot adequately describe it. It is the first new car in a very long time that I can honestly say was absolutely awesome. Who cares if it doesn't have a hood, and its not practical, going through some of the tunnels at 6-8,000 rpm must be something to remember.

When you're entering bends at 130mph++ you're not thinking about scuttle shake or a plastic dash or the shut lines of the bonnet.... what alot of nonsense is written here about dynamics, dashboard colour, feel etc.. and heaven forbid......IMAGE. Just get in the bl88dy thing, warm it up for a few miles and then HAMMER IT.

Show me another 4 seater convertible with this sort of performance - RS4 cab and the new Bentley are probable the only ones.
I don't see the point of convertible with this kind of performance full stop. I think the 911 TT cab is a ridiculous car too.

Do you wear Troll perfume? as you seem to attract them. yes

Ever seen the film "Jay and Silent Bob Fight Back"?

Just a fantastic scene at the end of the film when they find out where all the 'cocks' who post on sites like this and every other web forum live. They then go around to their houses, usually to find some spoddy kid or blubber butt and absolutely kick the shite out of every one of them! Would love to do that one time, just to find the chav at the other end in his bedroom thinking he is safe. You are so right, they should be ignored, but the pleasure of whacking the smile of some dickheads face is so appealing!

Wonder if Petrol Ted can get us rollin's IP address.........just a thought tank

I agree with you Charlie. I have owned two convertibles (Boxster S and Alpina Roadster S) and the Z4 was the most useful of these at speed, but my experience tells me that the best convertible is one that will be driven moderately, sounds great at low revs and looks great to be seen in.

The faster you go the louder the wind noise barrages your ears, the less you benefit from the exhaust sound and the more likely you conclude that its best to drive it with the top up. Which is what I ended up doing and then wondering why I was sitting in a convertible. True I've driven at 160+ on the Nurburgring with the top-down, but there wasn't exactly time to look around and enjoy the panoramic views and I'd have felt a lot more secure if a roof had been over my head. Clearly some people enjoy their convertibles and would never be parted from them, but the faster they go the less sense they make to me.

An M6 Convertible seems a real chocolate teapot, an answer looking for a question than nobody has asked. Pricing it at £86k when the coupe has already struggled to justify £81k is an act of optimism not seen since Jade thought she could become an actress. Mind you, £59k for Audis RS4 Convertible had me in stitches too..

Sorry perhaps that was a touch harsh, as I was forgetting about the Hyundai Matrix after all.....

I can see your point; but isn't that what is so good about today's convertibles?? When you're using it to get places quickly it is as good as a hard top and when you've arrived you can take the roof off.

It's a bit like the M'cycle helmets that you can lift the whole face part off once you've arrived at destination.

My last convertible was an AC Cobra which is a different experience altogether; 100mph in the Cobra feels like 200 in anything else. Not the most practical of cars but just such great fun!!

When is the last time we have pushed a car to its limit on a public road? Now take a very powerful car and ask yourselves the same question to their owners? We all want to buy into the dream, having a coupe (some like this one, some not, but at least it looks purposeful), driving an ultra powerful car for no apparent reason, and taking the top down when driving in Europe, now this is something we all dream of doing!

The only question about the price is whether it is priced properly in relationship to the competition. I view the competition as 997TT cabrio, but it is not out, Merc SL55 AMG, been around for a couple of years though, and whichever Jag XK something convertible is the most powerful. Within that range of cars, £86.000 is not crazy anymore if you can afford it.

Oh and 1 last thing, the whole UK population is getting obese, so clearly this is not a matter of money only. Working hard and enjoying life, including food, is something we should all aspire to, and the people who make money do.

Maybe you're right, but I've yet to drive a convertible that feels as good to drive as its coupe stablemate, and this M6 convertible weighs around 200kg more than the Coupe which is a penalty I just couldn't justify in a sporting car. But as you say, to some people a convertible will be the only option since it provides the twin personalities in one car - although perhaps a 650i Convertible would be just as good in that role.

I also agree that £86k doesn't seem that much when compared with the £99k of an SL55 and the 997TT when it comes will be £100k+.

judging about the loads of souped up tuned 645 ci cabriolets i have seen in all major cities in the uk and abroad, no wonder BMW has built the M6 cabriolet. its there to fill up the gap in the market.

i have seen loads of them, 645ci cabriolets with 4 tailpipes.black wheels and tarted up..usually driven by young asian lads

Can I ask why on God's earth someone buy this over a V8 Vantage or Maserati Spyder? Actually no, the Maser's a different story (scuttle shake here I come!), but I stand by the Vantage. driving cloud9

Er, perhaps because a Vantage has a roof (and is really not very fast, despite being very pretty and sounding wonderful)!
